Rita Capuchina is preparing to touch hearts this Mother’s Day weekend with the release of her emotional new single, “Hermoso Ayer,” arriving on all major digital streaming platforms. Written in honor of her late mother, the heartfelt ballad captures the pain of loss while celebrating the memories that become even more precious after someone is gone.
Filled with raw emotion and vulnerability, “Hermoso Ayer” explores the emptiness left behind after losing a loved one and the longing to relive moments that once felt ordinary. Through sincere lyrics and a moving vocal performance, Rita delivers a song that will resonate deeply with anyone grieving the loss of a mother or loved one.
The San Angelo-based artist recently stopped by Tejano Nation Radio affiliate La Voz 93.3 FM in Abilene, Texas, where she sat down with midday host Ro-Z to discuss the inspiration behind the powerful new release and reflect on her musical journey.
“I actually recorded the song last year,” Rita shared during the interview. “My goal was to get it out for Día de los Muertos because my mom passed last January. Within about six months later, I woke up and heard this orchestra music in my mind in my dreams. I woke up with this melody, and I could not get it out of my head for days.”
That melody eventually became “Hermoso Ayer,” a deeply personal tribute born directly from the grieving process.
“So I wrote the song, and it was a song for my mom going through the whole grief process,” she explained. “I wanted that emotion to be in my vocals when I recorded it. I decided I wanted to do a tribute for all the people that are having to deal with loss during Mother’s Day.”
Rita says the single is dedicated to those remembering mothers who are no longer physically here.
“In remembrance of those beautiful madresitas that are watching over us now,” she added.

Known for blending Tejano, country, Americana, and bilingual influences into her music, Rita has steadily built a loyal following since launching her original music career later in life. During the interview, she spoke candidly about taking the leap into music after raising her children and spending years performing in cover bands.
“I had a very late start as far as becoming a professional artist,” Rita said. “I’ve been in cover bands for about 20 years on and off while being a mom and a wife and growing my kids. Then they left the nest and I freaked out a little bit and said, ‘What am I going to do with my life?’ So I started pursuing the music more seriously.”
That leap of faith eventually led to the creation of her band, Rita Capuchina y Grupo Ánimo, and a growing catalog of original songs praised for their authenticity and emotional storytelling.
“I just sing what I feel in my heart,” she said. “That’s what they try to help me create.”
Rita also spoke about encouraging others — especially women — to chase their dreams regardless of age or circumstance.
“It doesn’t matter what age you are, you can do whatever the heck you want,” she said. “I want to encourage people whenever I go on stage.”
With “Hermoso Ayer,” Rita Capuchina delivers more than just another single — she offers a heartfelt reminder to cherish memories, hold loved ones close, and honor those who continue watching over us.
The new single is available now on streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music.
