Tejano recording artist Rita Capuchina is set to deliver an emotional and deeply personal musical tribute with the release of her new single, “Hermoso Ayer,” arriving on all major digital platforms today (May 8), just ahead of Mother’s Day weekend. An official music video for the heartfelt track will also premiere alongside the release.
Written in honor of her late mother, “Hermoso Ayer” explores the overwhelming grief and emptiness that follows the loss of a loved one while reflecting on memories that grow more meaningful with time. Through emotional lyrics and a sincere vocal performance, Rita captures the universal feeling of longing for moments that once seemed ordinary but now mean everything.
“This song comes from a very real place in my heart,” Rita Capuchina shared. “Losing my mother changed everything. Life feels incomplete, like a puzzle with a missing piece that you search for in vain—a feeling only those who have experienced the same loss can truly understand. ‘Hermoso Ayer’ is my way of honoring her and hopefully connecting with others walking through that same grief.”
Produced by Severo ‘Sevy’ Contreras and recorded at Slackmonster Studios, the single blends traditional Tejano influences with a heartfelt balada style, creating a timeless and intimate sound designed to resonate with listeners across generations.
The timing of the release was intentional, serving not only as a tribute to Rita’s mother, but also as a dedication to mothers everywhere who are no longer with their families. As Mother’s Day approaches, “Hermoso Ayer” aims to offer comfort, reflection, and connection to anyone carrying the memory of someone they deeply loved.
With its emotional storytelling and classic Tejano soul, “Hermoso Ayer” adds another meaningful chapter to Rita Capuchina Y Ánimo’s musical journey while reminding listeners that the love shared with those we’ve lost never truly fades.
