Erika Renée is opening her heart once again with the release of “Mi Linda Ilusión (Balada Acústica),” a moving new version of the song she originally wrote in honor of her late mother. Released just ahead of Mother’s Day celebrations, the acoustic ballad showcases a softer, nostalgic sound inspired by the music her parents once danced to at family gatherings.

The San Antonio-based singer officially unveiled the new version on May 8 alongside an emotional music video on YouTube featuring treasured family photos and memories celebrating her mother’s life. The project carries a deeply personal meaning for the Mexican-American artist, who says the song was born unexpectedly during a drive from Austin to San Antonio.

“I feel like maybe God was preparing me for something and I didn’t even know it,” Erika Renée shared about the moment the melody and lyrics first came to her.

The singer wrote and recorded the original song while caring for her mother during her illness. Though emotionally difficult, one of the most meaningful moments came when she was able to sing the song to her mother before her passing.

“When I sang it to her, she said, ‘It’s very beautiful, my dear, I like it a lot,’” Erika Renée recalled.

The original version of “Mi Linda Ilusión” was released on the same day as her mother’s funeral, turning the song into both a farewell and an everlasting expression of love. Now, the acoustic rendition gives the heartfelt composition a fresh emotional depth while maintaining the powerful message behind it.

Produced in Monterrey by Diego García, the acoustic version embraces a romantic and vintage-inspired sound influenced by legendary norteño groups like Los Cadetes de Linares — one of her mother’s favorite bands.

“This new version with an acoustic and romantic sound inspired by the music my parents danced to at family gatherings,” the singer explained. “It has a very beautiful, old-fashioned sound.”

The official music video also captures scenes filmed in Santiago, Nuevo León, combined with personal family images provided by her sisters. The visual production, artwork, and editing were completed by Monterrey-based creative team Nubemix.

“It’s very emotional for me… I feel that nostalgia for when my mom was present; this song is for all mothers, for those who are here and for those who are in heaven,” she said.
