ALAMO, TX — The highly anticipated Watermelon Festival in Alamo has officially been postponed following severe weather that forced organizers to cancel the event scheduled for today due to safety concerns and storm-related damage.
City officials shared an update with the community after the cancellation, explaining that the decision went far beyond muddy conditions at the festival grounds.
“We want to thank everyone for their patience, understanding, and support during this unexpected situation,” the City of Alamo said in a statement. “The decision to reschedule the Watermelon Festival was not made simply because of mud conditions. The severe storm caused major damage to critical event infrastructure, including loss of electricity and significant damage to the stage due to the strong winds and heavy rain. After assessing the situation, safety had to come first.”
Rather than cancel the celebration altogether, organizers confirmed the festival will now return on July 2, 2026 as part of the city’s Freedom Bash festivities.
The rescheduled event is expected to feature an even larger entertainment lineup, including legendary Tejano group La Mafia alongside Grupo Solido, David Lee Garza, David Olivarez, and South Texas Homies.
City officials also assured attendees that previously purchased VIP tables and tickets will remain valid for the new July 2 date, with additional redemption details expected soon. Vendors and sponsors are also expected to receive updated event information directly from organizers.
Headliners La Mafia also addressed fans following the cancellation with a heartfelt message in Spanish, expressing disappointment while emphasizing the importance of public safety.
“Family, we deeply regret to inform you that tonight’s concert scheduled in Alamo, Texas, cannot take place,” the group shared. “During the stage setup for the Watermelon Festival, a strong storm caused damage to part of the production equipment, even though our entire staff, musicians, and production crew were already prepared to share this night with you.”
The group continued, “For us, the safety of our people and all attendees will always be the most important thing. We know how excited everyone was for this concert, and it hurts us greatly that a situation beyond our control has forced us to make this decision.”
La Mafia confirmed the new concert date will remain at the same venue on July 2, with all previously purchased tickets still being honored.
Despite the setback, anticipation is already building for what organizers are calling an even bigger celebration this summer in Alamo.
