La Mafia’s ‘Ahora Y Siempre’ Earns RIAA Diamante Status, Cementing Music Legacy

The legacy of La Mafia continues to grow stronger in 2026 as the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has officially awarded Diamante status to their iconic 1992 album Ahora Y Siempre. Certified on April 8, 2026, the milestone further solidifies the Houston-based group’s place among the most influential acts in Tejano music history.

Originally released at the height of the band’s popularity, Ahora Y Siempre remains one of the most celebrated albums in the genre. Packed with timeless hits like “Me Estoy Enamorando,” “Qué Haré Yo,” and the unforgettable title track, the record helped define an era and continues to resonate with fans decades later. Its enduring appeal was underscored by a recent vinyl reissue in September 2025, introducing the classic to a new generation of listeners.

Under the RIAA’s Latin certification program, a Diamante award represents 600,000 equivalent units—marking 10 times Multi-Platino status. The program, launched in 2000 as “Premios de Oro y Platino,” recognizes albums with more than 50% Spanish-language content. While the standard RIAA Diamond certification requires 10 million units, the Latin Diamante distinction reflects a different threshold tailored to the market, making the achievement all the more significant within the genre.

The accolades didn’t stop there. On the same day, the RIAA also recognized several other standout releases from the group’s catalog. The 1994 album Vida reached 5x Platino status, while 1997’s En Tus Manos earned 2x Platino certification. Additionally, the 1999 album Momentos received Oro status, highlighting the sustained success of the band’s late-’90s output.

Just days later, on April 15, 2026, another monumental achievement was added to the list when the 1991 album Estas Tocando Fuego was also certified Diamante, according to the RIAA’s official records. The recognition underscores the band’s dominance during the early ’90s and their lasting cultural impact.

Founded in 1980 in Houston by Oscar De La RosaLeonard Gonzales, and Armando Lichtenberger Jr., La Mafia helped revolutionize Tejano music by fusing traditional conjunto and cumbia sounds with elements of pop, R&B, rock, and soul. Their innovative approach not only broadened the genre’s appeal but also paved the way for future generations of artists.

With multiple GRAMMY wins and a catalog filled with classics, La Mafia remains a cornerstone of Tejano music. The group continues to perform and connect with fans worldwide, currently on their “EPIC” Tour—marking their 46th tour in a career that now spans more than four decades.

These latest RIAA certifications are more than just numbers—they’re a testament to La Mafia’s enduring influence and a celebration of a sound that continues to define Tejano music across generations.
