Los Hermanos Peña Team Up With Destiny Navaira for New Original Cumbia ‘Viejo Amor’

​Tejano Music Hall of Fame inductees Los Hermanos Peña have revealed their upcoming original cumbia, “Viejo Amor,” featuring guest vocals from two-time Tejano Music Awards Female Vocalist of the Year Destiny Navaira.

The release highlights a fresh, modernized sonic path for the group following their return to traditional sounds on earlier projects.

A New Direction

Drawing inspiration from current acts like Karol G and Grupo Frontera, along with hitmaking producers like Edgar Barrera, the group aimed to blend vintage Conjunto textures with modern arrangements to reach a broader audience.

“We wanted to come out of left field and give people something newer with this song. We love everything producers like Edgar Barrera are doing, and we wanted to do our take on that evolution of music,” said Fide Peña, one of the track’s lead producers.

A Generational Collaboration

This stylistic shift led the ensemble to team up with Destiny Navaira, bringing a prominent voice from a legendary Tejano family into the mix.

“We produced the song with her in mind, so we were excited when she agreed, and she killed it on the vocals,” said Los Hermanos Peña singer Oscar Peña.

“She’s also collaborated with some of the greats, like Bronco and David Lee Garza, so we’re grateful for her work on this project.”

Speaking with Tejano Nation about joining forces with the legendary group, Destiny highlighted the personal ties and artistic passion that brought her on board.

“I’m good friends with their nephew, they are long time family friends, and I love to collaborate. So if the song is good and I am able to fit time in my schedule, I will always find time to get it done!” Destiny shared.

Developing Family Roots

The family connection continues to develop within the Peña family as they brought in their own.

The track was penned by two of the Peña brothers’ nieces, while Adan Peña and David Flores Jr. assisted in crafting the overall studio audio.

“We really leaned on younger ears to help make ‘Viejo Amor’ special. If you want to bridge the gap for the next generation, you’ve got to have them in the room at some point,” said the band’s bassist, Gilbert Peña.
