Tejano veterans Ricardo Castillon Y La Diferenzia are keeping the momentum going in 2026, teasing a brand-new project packed with familiar hits—reimagined in their signature style.

During an appearance on the television program Domingo Live on April 20, frontman Ricardo Castillon shared exclusive insight into what fans can expect next from the celebrated group. While stopping short of revealing all the details, he confirmed the project will feature well-known songs with a fresh Diferenzia twist.

“We’re actually at this moment recording on a very special project. We’ve got a few collaborations. It’s a surprise, I can’t say yet,” Castillon said. “This album is not original songs. They’re songs that have already been hits, but our style. So these songs people are going to recognize right away when they hear them.”

The concept, he explained, is rooted in the band’s live energy and the strong audience response to select covers they’ve performed over the years.

“It’s going to be something really special. But we want to add more music to our live performances. And this is a way that we can make the songs ours and also play them at our shows,” he added. “Because I’ve noticed that when we do certain songs, people love them.”

Castillon also hinted at a deeply personal connection to the project, revealing that the featured artists has long been a major influence on his musical journey.

“It’s artists that I’ve had a lot of respect for throughout the years. They were a big influence in my life. So we’re very, very excited for that.”

The upcoming release follows the group’s highly successful comeback album, Renacimiento del Phoenix, which dominated at the Premios Tejano Mundial 2026. The album earned Album of the Year honors and showcased the band’s ability to blend classic Tejano roots with a modern edge.

The accolades didn’t stop there. The group also took home Cumbia Song of the Year for “Preciosa” and Progressive Song of the Year for “Que Tropieza,” solidifying their place at the forefront of today’s Tejano scene. Their resurgence was further cemented when they were named Entertainer of the Year at the 45th Tejano Music Awards last November.

Reflecting on their enduring success, Castillon pointed to a familiar but powerful ingredient: chemistry.

“First of all, I think it has to do a lot with the guys that you’ve got behind you. The unity among us,” he said. “They say that once in a lifetime, you get a band that really works together… Well, I had that back in 1995. And I feel the same way now about these guys.”

Rising to fame in the 1990s with hits like “Linda Chaparrita,” “Mundo Sin Guitarras,” and “Si Lo Quieres,” the group has remained a staple in Tejano music thanks to their dynamic performances and seamless fusion of cumbias and heartfelt ballads.

With a new project on the horizon—potentially arriving as early as late spring—Ricardo Castillon Y La Diferenzia are once again proving that evolution, nostalgia, and authenticity can go hand in hand.
