The Last Bandoleros paid tribute to late Tejano icon Emilio Navaira with the release of the San Antonio-based Tex-Mex/Pop Rock band’s latest music video, “What Would You Be Doing?”
Brothers Diego Navaira and Emilio Navaira IV, two members of The Last Bandoleros, are the sons of Grammy-winning entertainer, who passed away from a heart attack in his home on May 16, 2016, at the age of 53.
The tribute mixes Tejano sounds, including an evocative flamenco-style guitar line, with contemporary production, for an emotional remembrance of one of the most prominent artists in Tejano.
Diego Navaira said, “I’ve written a few since he passed. This one just felt right to share with our fans and especially his. His passing changed the way I write music. I write now with much more passion than I ever did.”
Emilio Navaira IV added, “I feel him every time that we play. That guy played every night like he was playing for a stadium. Whether he felt good, or healthy or sick or whatever. That’s instilled in me for sure — every time you go on stage, give it your all. Because you don’t know if you’re going to play again.”
