Legendary Música Mexicana group Intocable is reflecting on more than three decades of music, family, authenticity and connection with fans in a new ABC News Live Prime feature that highlights the group’s remarkable journey from Zapata, Texas, to the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

For Intocable, the story has always been rooted in where they came from. The group’s South Texas beginnings helped shape the sound, influences and identity that would eventually carry them to audiences around the world.

From South Texas to Hollywood

Co-founder and drummer René Martínez reflected on the musical era that influenced the group while growing up in South Texas.

“I think we’re just blessed to be born in the era where all this good music was coming out and we were just absorbing all that good info.”

Frontman Ricardo “Ricky” Muñoz agreed that both the era and the place where they grew up played an important role.

“Well, the era and the place we were born. Yeah, for sure, for sure.”

Percussionist Sergio Serna explained that when it came time to create music, the group followed its instincts and drew from what they had experienced.

“When it was time to make music, we’re just making music, you know, what we felt, what we heard, all that.”

That approach has remained central to Intocable’s identity throughout its career.

The secret to Intocable’s longevity

After more than 30 years together, Intocable has experienced multiple generations of fans, changes in the music industry and the transformation of how audiences discover music.

For Muñoz, one of the keys to the group’s longevity is staying authentic.

“Trying to be authentic and true to ourselves, so that gives us, you know, every time we even work on new music, it’s a brand new journey.”

Muñoz said that mindset keeps the creative process fresh, even after decades of recording and performing.

“Be authentic. Whatever it is, whatever it is, be authentic, be you, so that way you don’t have any regrets.”

That authenticity also appears to be connecting Intocable with younger listeners discovering the group’s music through streaming platforms and social media.

Muñoz believes the answer is relatively simple: people connect with music that feels genuine.

“I think what resonates is, again, the realness of it. The real stories, real music, and people connect.”

The continued discovery of Intocable by younger audiences demonstrates how music created decades ago can find new life through today’s digital platforms.

A Hollywood Walk of Fame milestone

In July, Intocable added another historic achievement to its career when the group received its star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the Recording category.

The honor recognizes the group’s lasting contribution to music and its influence across generations of listeners.

For Muñoz, however, the full emotional impact of the honor may not arrive immediately.

“Yeah, no doubt we’re happy for sure, and I think one day we’re all gonna come back in our own individual time as a tourist, and then we’re gonna see it, and then that’s when it all is gonna hit.”

The moment represents a remarkable evolution for a group that began its journey in the small South Texas community of Zapata and eventually became one of the most recognizable names in Música Mexicana.

The music—and the fans—continue

While the Hollywood Walk of Fame star represents a major career milestone, Intocable isn’t looking backward.

The group’s Cultura Tour continues to bring its music to audiences across the country, celebrating the catalog that has helped define the band’s legacy while introducing that music to new listeners.

For Martínez, the most meaningful part of Intocable’s career isn’t necessarily a particular award or milestone. It’s the ability to continue creating and performing for audiences after more than three decades.

“Creating music and being here for so long and able to sell on the stage to sold-out crowds after 30-some years. We focus ourselves more on that, on continuing doing great music, great stuff.”

That perspective captures the essence of Intocable’s longevity. The group has continued to evolve without abandoning the identity that made its music resonate in the first place.

From Zapata, Texas, to Hollywood Boulevard, Intocable’s journey is a story of perseverance, authenticity and an enduring relationship with its audience.

As the Cultura Tour continues and new generations discover the group’s music through streaming and social media, Intocable’s legacy is no longer simply a reflection of the past. It remains a living, evolving part of Música Mexicana.
