A Personal Tribute Through Music and Technology

Ray Ray has worked with Moya for years, including on “Ven Ven Ven,” the music video that helped him earn a Tejano Music Award for Best Video of the Year in 2021. Their latest collaboration takes their creative partnership in a new direction, using AI-generated visuals to revisit the people and memories that helped shape Ray Ray’s career.

For Moya, the opportunity to honor Ray Ray’s father made the project especially meaningful.

“When we started working on this video, I knew how important it was to honor your dad and the legacy you shared with him and your family,” Moya said. “Seeing him come to life again—even for just a few moments—and seeing the emotion it brought you means more to me than I can put into words.”

Moya also expressed hope that the finished video would offer Ray Ray a meaningful opportunity to reconnect with his father’s memory.

“I hope when you watched the finished video, it felt like you got to share the stage with your dad one more time, and that somewhere up above, he’s looking down just as proud of you today as he was back then,” Moya said.

“Me Prometiste Más” was written by Ray Ray and Jesse Villarreal and produced by Sevy Contreras at Slackmonster Studios.

Ray Ray praised Villarreal’s songwriting and their longstanding working relationship, describing him as an exceptional composer and a valued creative partner over the years.

The song’s emotional foundation and the video’s nostalgic imagery work together to connect the music of today with the memories of Tejano’s influential 1990s era. Rather than relying solely on nostalgia, the project uses modern technology to explore how the genre’s history can continue to inspire new forms of artistic expression.

Ray Ray Reflects on His Musical Journey

The release arrives at a pivotal moment for Ray Ray, who says he is reconsidering what he wants the next chapter of his musical career to look like.

After years of performing, recording and touring, the artist has reached many of the milestones he once set for himself. His accomplishments include winning a Tejano Music Award, earning multiple Top 5 placements, being inducted into the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame and receiving recognition in the Totally Tejano Hall of Fame and Museum in San Antonio. He is also a Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.

Ray Ray has toured internationally alongside his brothers and father and has earned royalties from the music he has created throughout his career.

Reflecting on those experiences, Ray Ray said he is grateful for everything Tejano music has given him, but he is also ready to explore his creativity without feeling limited to one genre.

“At this point in my musical journey, I’m at a crossroads,” Ray Ray said. “I’m torn between walking away from everything I’ve worked so hard to achieve in Tejano and going in a completely different direction, because I feel like I have accomplished most of the goals I set out for myself.”

Despite those uncertainties, Ray Ray emphasized that his appreciation for Tejano remains unchanged. He considers himself fortunate to have built a career in the genre and says he will always be honored to be part of its legacy.

His current outlook, however, is centered on personal fulfillment and the freedom to follow his musical instincts.

“But at this point in my life, I just want to do what I love—and that’s make music,” Ray Ray said. “Whether it’s Tejano, Mariachi, Trio, or something completely different, I just want to follow wherever the music takes me.”

He added that his motivation has shifted toward creating music for the enjoyment of the process itself.

“Now, I want to make music because it makes me happy. I want to do it for the love of it. I want to do it for me.”

A New Chapter: Mariachi and More Tejano Music

Ray Ray’s next steps suggest that he is not stepping away from music anytime soon. He is currently working to complete a Mariachi EP while also beginning work on his fifth Tejano album.

The two projects reflect his desire to explore different musical styles while continuing to build on the foundation established throughout his career.

Whether he ultimately focuses on Tejano, Mariachi, Trio music or other creative possibilities, Ray Ray’s message is clear: his next chapter will be guided by his passion for music rather than expectations about where his career should go.
