Grupo Siggno frontman Jesse Turner is preparing for another memorable appearance at the Tejano Music Awards, but his latest conversation with The Bo Corona Show offered fans something beyond the music: a look into the personal experiences, friendships and perseverance that continue to inspire his songwriting and career.
During the interview, Turner discussed the real-life inspiration behind Siggno’s rising single “Mentirosa,” recalled the challenges of performing the national anthem at major sporting events and explained why returning to the Tejano Music Awards remains meaningful after more than two decades in the industry.
With the 46th Annual Tejano Music Awards approaching November 13, Turner also confirmed that Siggno is already preparing new music for 2027 while continuing to promote its latest album, Su Legado 1938.
The personal story behind Siggno’s ‘Mentirosa’
Turner revealed that “Mentirosa” was inspired by a close friend who was experiencing the painful end of a relationship that had lasted more than seven years.
Wanting to help his friend move forward, Turner invited him to work out together and take his mind off the difficult situation. During their conversations, his friend opened up about what had happened and the personal struggles surrounding the separation.
The story stayed with Turner, who recognized an experience that many listeners could relate to: trying to do everything right in a relationship while knowing the other person isn’t telling the truth.
Turner explained that the song was his friend’s opportunity to tell his side of the story.
“It’s because of a friendship. So not only do I write songs for me, but I write songs for my friend,” Turner said.
He also explained why the song belonged on Su Legado 1938, connecting it to the friendships and personal experiences that helped him through a difficult eight-month period following his mother’s passing.
“Who hasn’t lived that?” Turner asked, describing the experience of knowing someone is lying but choosing to remain silent rather than immediately confronting the situation.
For Turner, “Mentirosa” carries a message of frustration, heartbreak and ultimately standing up for one’s own version of the truth.
“His version is this song right here that you’re hearing. It’s called ‘Mentirosa,’” he explained.
The story reinforces Turner’s approach to songwriting, which often draws from real-life experiences rather than simply creating songs for entertainment.
Turner opens up about singing the national anthem
The conversation also turned to Turner’s appearances at major sporting events, including his recent opportunity to perform the national anthem at an Houston Astros game.
Although performing with Siggno is second nature, Turner admitted that singing the national anthem by himself is considerably more nerve-racking.
“It’s five times worse singing the national anthem,” Turner told Bo Corona.
He explained that performing the song acapella, remembering its lyrics and delivering it correctly makes it a different challenge from singing his own music.
Turner recalled his first national anthem performance for the Houston Texans, which came approximately two months after his mother’s passing. He admitted that his mind wasn’t in the right place during that difficult period.

For his more recent performance, he came better prepared, even writing the first line of each phrase on his hand as a reminder.
Despite his nerves, Turner said he was proud of the opportunity, demonstrating another side of the entertainer beyond the stage.
Why the Tejano Music Awards remain special to Jesse Turner
With Siggno scheduled to perform at the 46th Annual Tejano Music Awards, Turner reflected on the recognition he received early in his career and why the annual celebration continues to hold a special place in his heart.
He specifically remembered 2001, when he received the Rising Male Tejano Performer of the Year recognition. Turner said that recognition was meaningful because it represented an early acknowledgment of his potential in the industry.
He has since accumulated an impressive list of career accomplishments, including 14 Male Entertainer of the Year honors, 16 Male Vocalist of the Year awards, four Grammy nominations and a 2008 Latin Grammy Award.

For Turner, attending the Tejano Music Awards isn’t necessarily about seeing other artists, since he regularly encounters them while touring. Instead, it’s about recognizing the organization and the role it has played in supporting his journey.
“It’s just to let people know that, hey, we’re still here. We’re still very grateful for the TTMAs that we grew together,” Turner said.
He emphasized that the awards represent an opportunity to celebrate music, recognize established performers and encourage emerging artists who are beginning their own journeys.
Turner also praised the importance of recognizing artists who make it into the final nominees, regardless of whether they take home a trophy.
He used Siggno’s own Grammy experiences as an example, explaining that even when the group didn’t win, the nominations represented an important achievement.
“Just being up there in the top five is a beautiful recognition,” he said.

Siggno already preparing new album for 2027
While fans continue enjoying the music from Su Legado 1938, Turner revealed that Siggno has already completed another album and is preparing to introduce new material in 2027.
The frontman told Corona that the group is waiting for the year to conclude before releasing the next collection of songs.
In the meantime, Siggno will continue promoting its current album and performing for fans across the country.
Turner mentioned upcoming appearances in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the Rio Grande Valley for the 956 Music Fest, along with the group’s performance at the Tejano Music Awards in Katy.
As the interview concluded, Turner extended an invitation to fans to attend the awards and support the artists who continue contributing to Tejano music.
His message was especially meaningful for performers who have earned nominations but may not ultimately receive a trophy.
For Turner, recognition itself is something worth celebrating, and the opportunity to continue making music should inspire artists to keep moving forward.
