San Antonio’s own Ray Ray is back where his heart has always been—with Tejano music.

The Tejano ROOTS Hall of Famer has released his latest original cumbia, “Me Prometiste Más,” marking a return to the signature Tejano sound that longtime fans have been eagerly anticipating. Following two consecutive mariachi releases that showcased a different side of his artistry, Ray Ray’s newest single delivers the classic, old-school cumbia flavor that has defined much of his career.

While his mariachi recordings found success beyond the United States, Ray Ray says his connection to Tejano music remains unmatched.

“I feel at home singing Tejano, but I wanted to showcase my vocals in mariachi. It did very well for me in Spain, Europe and abroad, but my heart belongs to my Tejano fans,” Ray Ray said. “With this old school cumbia, I’m transporting them back to the glory days of Tejano.”

The response from fans has reinforced what many already knew—listeners were ready for Ray Ray’s return to the dance floor with a fresh Tejano cumbia.

The new single was recorded at Slackmonster Studios, where Ray Ray says he has found an inspiring creative environment while continuing to grow as an artist.

“I obviously found my home away from home at Slackmonster Studios and all the guys there that contributed to my recordings. I am learning a lot and I love it,” he said.

Ray Ray also expressed gratitude to the musicians who helped bring “Me Prometiste Más” to life, recognizing the collaborative effort behind the recording.

“I want to thank those musicians starting with Sevy Contreras (keys), Boo Real (segunda voz), Steve Alvarez (guitar), Steve Roth (bass), Joey Sanchez (drums), Emmanuel Escamilla (percussion and co-writer), and Jesse Villarreal.”

The single reunites Ray Ray with an accomplished group of musicians whose performances capture the spirit of classic Tejano while giving the production a polished, contemporary sound.

A San Antonio native, Ray Ray has been part of the Tejano music landscape for more than two decades. He first gained recognition performing with his family’s band, Los Agues, during the 1990s before launching a successful solo career.

Among his many accomplishments is earning a Tejano Music Award for Video of the Year for his hit “Ven, Ven, Ven,”while his dedication to preserving the genre has also earned him induction into the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame.

“Me Prometiste Más” follows his most recent album, Hombre Fiel, and offers fans a preview of what’s to come.

Ray Ray is currently putting the finishing touches on his fifth studio album, with the new cumbia set to appear on the upcoming project. If “Me Prometiste Más” is any indication, fans can expect an album that embraces the timeless sounds of traditional Tejano while continuing to showcase the seasoned vocalist’s passion for the music that made him a favorite among generations of listeners.

With one foot planted firmly in tradition and another pushing forward creatively, Ray Ray’s latest release is a reminder that sometimes the best way to move ahead is by returning home.
