Tejano ROOTS Hall of Famer Ray Ray is once again showcasing his versatility and deep musical heritage with the release of his latest single, “Tu Almohada.” Composed by Julio Rodriguez Reyes, the track marks his second venture into mariachi, blending timeless tradition with a fresh, modern edge.

Known for his Tejano foundation, Ray Ray continues to expand his artistic range while staying grounded in the sounds that shaped him. “Tu Almohada” is especially meaningful, as it’s a song he cherished in his youth—now reimagined as a heartfelt tribute to his roots. Visually and stylistically, the release reflects that same balance of past and present, with Ray Ray donning his original hat alongside a striking matador-inspired look.
The single features an impressive lineup of musicians from the local scene, each adding depth and richness to the production. Gilberto Martinez delivers intricate guitar work across the guitar, guitarrón, and vihuela, while Al Gomez’s commanding trumpet performance adds a vibrant flair. Violinist Damien “Diamond” Zepeda brings elegance and emotion, and Boo Real’s powerful segunda voz injects an electrifying dynamic throughout the track.
Behind the scenes, producer Severo “Sevy” Contreras of Slackmonster Studios plays a pivotal role in shaping the song’s polished, innovative sound. His meticulous approach and creative vision elevate “Tu Almohada” into a standout release that bridges genres while honoring tradition.
Ray Ray shared his excitement about the project and his ongoing musical journey. “I am excited about this new release. This in no way takes away my love for Tejano. I am just a versatile artist and always have been. I love dipping into all music genres,” he said. “For instance, I just won a Tejano Mundial Award for Gospel of the Year for ‘Heaven Is My Home,’ and I actually have a cumbia I will be releasing later this year. For now, I wanted to see where this journey would lead me. So far, I have received great feedback.”
He also credited his producer for helping him reach new creative heights. “This song shows how much I have progressed, and I owe it all to my producer at Slackmonster Studios, Sevy Contreras. He really takes his time with me in the studio to make sure he gets the best out of me, and I’m grateful.”
“Tu Almohada” is now available on all digital streaming platforms, inviting fans to experience a different side of Ray Ray while still feeling the heart of Tejano influence.
