For Ramiro “Ram” Herrera, this Sunday’s event at San Antonio’s Thirsty Horse Saloon — with a musical lineup of fan favorites — is the definition of a labor of love.

Herrera’s fiancee, Gloria Jean, was affected by cancer and the devastation of the disease hit close to the Tejano crooner’s heart so together, the two created the first-ever Tejanos United for Cancer Awareness.

Prior events occurred in Dallas on Oct. 5 and in Houston on Oct. 19. This Sunday, Oct. 27, Ram and his supportive, musical friends bring the awareness event to San Antonio with Tejano artists starring, Herrera, Shelly Lares, David Lee Garza y Los Musicales, La Tropa F, and La Dezz. The show starts at 4 p.m. at Thirsty Horse Saloon, 2335 N.W. Military Highway in San Antonio, Texas. Get more information online.

While the event honors Gloria Jean, a portion of the proceeds benefit the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, one of the largest cancer centers in the world and according to its website, one which has “ranked as one of the top two hospitals in cancer care every year since U.S. News & World Report began its annual America’s Best Hospitals survey in 1990.”

The Tejanos United for Cancer Awareness events are scheduled during October, which is National Cancer Awareness Month.

Tejano Nation will cover Sunday’s event and bring you all the exclusive interviews with the artists. Hope to see you there!
