Grupo Entrego is bringing a little música, misterio and Halloween fun to the Tejano music scene with the release of its spooky new cumbia single and music video, “El Cucuy.”
The West Texas-based group officially premiered the music video Wednesday night, October 7, on YouTube. The song will follow with its digital release on Thursday, October 8, when “El Cucuy” becomes available on major streaming platforms.
Written by Jose Luis Garcia and produced by Erick Martinez, “El Cucuy” is a high-energy Spanish-language cumbia driven by live instrumentation, including saxophone, drums and rhythmic guitar. The result is a festive track designed to bring a Halloween twist to the dance floor.
For Grupo Entrego vocalist Chris Martinez, “El Cucuy” represents something different from the group’s current release campaign while giving fans an opportunity to experience the band’s playful side.
In a recent interview with New Mexico radio station KNDA, Martinez explained that the song was created as a special Halloween release while the group continues promoting its latest single, “Regresa.”
“It’s gonna be a special release,” Martinez said. “Right now we’re pushing our latest single, which is Regresa, but this is just gonna be like a special release for Halloween.”
Martinez believes the combination of cumbia, salsa and saxophone gives “El Cucuy” a distinctive sound that could connect with listeners looking for something new.
“I think it’s gonna do very good, and that little portion of it that has a little bit of salsa, and it also has some sax in it,” he said.
He also emphasized the importance of pairing the song with a visual experience.
“I just wanted people to visualize while they listen to the music, like ‘Regresa,’ and I think if we do this again with ‘El Cucuy,’ it’ll kind of hit people a little different también.”
A Halloween Party at Moss Creek Ranch
The “El Cucuy” music video brings the song’s Halloween spirit to life with a festive backyard celebration filmed at Moss Creek Ranch in Big Spring, Texas.
Guests dance to the song’s driving cumbia groove while wearing colorful Día de los Muertos-inspired masks, creating a lively October atmosphere that complements the track’s spooky theme without losing the party spirit at the heart of Grupo Entrego’s music.
The video was directed and produced by award-winning filmmaker Ryan Bazan and sponsored by Tweet Sounds.
For Martinez, the video was an important part of the project.
“The video was fun,” Martinez told KNDA. “Yeah, because we went ahead and shot the video, and we’re gonna bring it out, you know, with the video when we release it.”
He hopes the combination of music and visuals will help listeners connect with the song in a different way.
“Hopefully it’ll do well for us,” Martinez said.
Grupo Entrego Builds on “Regresa”
“El Cucuy” arrives as Grupo Entrego continues building momentum behind “Regresa,” the group’s most recent release.
“Regresa” is a deeply personal song for Chris Martinez, who returned to music in 2023 after stepping away from performing following the death of his mother, Mary Martinez, in 2004. His daughter’s wedding helped bring him back to music and ultimately led to the renewed Grupo Entrego project.
The song serves as a tribute to his mother, imagining the emotional experience of having one more moment with someone who has been lost.
That emotional release has given fans a more reflective look at the group. “El Cucuy,” by contrast, allows Grupo Entrego to show another side of its musical personality with a fun, seasonal cumbia built for Halloween celebrations.
The Sound of Grupo Entrego
Grupo Entrego is a West Texas-based group led by Chris Martinez, who serves as lead vocalist and songwriter, and Erick Martinez, the band’s drummer, producer and co-owner. The group also features Amber Martinez on backup vocals, with the band’s musical roots extending across communities including Big Spring, Colorado City, San Angelo and Odessa.

The group has continued to establish itself within the West Texas Tejano scene, earning recognition as the 2025 West Texas Lifetime Music Awards Duo of the Year.
With releases such as “Dame,” a collaboration with Jenny B, and the cumbia favorite “Aquí Estoy,” Grupo Entrego has demonstrated its versatility while maintaining its connection to the dance-oriented sound of Tejano music.
Now, “El Cucuy” gives the group another opportunity to connect with listeners — this time with a Halloween soundtrack filled with cumbia rhythms, saxophone, live instrumentation and a festive visual celebration.
As Grupo Entrego continues promoting “Regresa,” “El Cucuy” offers fans something completely different: a special seasonal release designed to make people dance, celebrate and perhaps have a little fun with the legendary Cucuy.
