The free, family-friendly festival will run from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., bringing together emerging young artists, established performers and community members for a full day celebrating the music and cultural traditions of South Texas.

Founded by recording artist, educator, podcast host and Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame inductee Gigi Guerrero, professionally known as Gigi La Sheekana, the Tejano Music Legacy Foundation was created to preserve the contributions of Tejano and Conjunto pioneers while creating opportunities for the next generation.

“Our mission is to preserve the past, celebrate the present, and inspire the future of our music,” Guerrero said. “TEJUNTO brings generations together to honor the artists who paved the way, celebrate those carrying our music forward, and give young musicians an opportunity to shine.”

TEJUNTO Festival Lineup Highlights Emerging and Established Artists

The festival’s entertainment lineup will span multiple generations and styles, beginning with young performers and building toward an evening concert featuring some of the Rio Grande Valley’s talented Tejano and Conjunto artists.

From 1 to 4 p.m., the TEJUNTO Future Stars Talent Show will give young performers from across the Rio Grande Valley an opportunity to take the stage and showcase their musical talents.

The afternoon will continue from 4 to 5 p.m. with folklórico performances, celebrating the traditional Mexican dance and cultural heritage that remains an important part of South Texas’ identity.

The festival’s evening entertainment will then feature live performances by:

  • Brenda Blanco
  • La Gloria de Cristo
  • El Gorrión y La Paloma
  • Grupo VKRO
  • Grupo Zendero
  • Homer G
  • Velvet Steel
  • Los Chamacos — Headlining at 9 p.m.

The lineup gives attendees an opportunity to experience a variety of sounds while highlighting the continuing evolution of Tejano and Conjunto music.

Los Chamacos to Headline the Inaugural Festival

Closing out the night’s entertainment at 9 p.m. will be Los Chamacos, who will headline the inaugural TEJUNTO Festival.

The group’s appearance adds another generational connection to the event, particularly as Los Chamacos are among the artists who have recorded music connected to the songwriting legacy of Guerrero’s father, Juan Guerrero.

Honoring Juan Guerrero’s Musical Legacy

The TEJUNTO Festival also serves as a tribute to the musical legacy of Juan Guerrero, the legendary Tejano musician and songwriter whose work with the pioneering group Los Sheekanos helped shape the region’s musical landscape.

His songwriting catalog includes songs such as “Ya Te Vi,” “Quisiera Tener Alas,” “El Tuerto,” “Jardín Olvidado,”and “¿Qué Más Quieres, Corazón?”

Guerrero’s compositions have been recorded and performed by major names across Tejano, Conjunto and regional Mexican music, including Ramón Ayala, Intocable, Elsa García, David Lee Garza, Los Palominos, Los Chamacos, and Albert Zamora.

That enduring songwriting legacy is central to the foundation’s mission of making sure the contributions of composers and musicians are remembered while giving today’s young performers an opportunity to carry the music forward.

A Free Community Celebration

In addition to the musical performances, TEJUNTO will feature local food and merchandise vendors, refreshments and family-friendly activities, creating an all-day community celebration at Leo Peña Placita Park.

The Tejano Music Legacy Foundation is also recognizing the City of Mission for its partnership and support, along with Super Tejano 102.1 and Radio United for their promotional partnership.

Sponsors, vendors, artists and volunteers are also contributing to the inaugural event.

For Guerrero and the Tejano Music Legacy Foundation, TEJUNTO represents more than a concert. It is an effort to connect the pioneers who established the music with the artists and young musicians who will carry Tejano and Conjunto into the future.
