For La Reina, music has been part of her life since she was four years old, when she began singing in church in her hometown of Lubbock, Texas. Piano lessons, choir, orchestra, school music programs, talent shows and competitions helped build the foundation for a career that would eventually take her from behind the DJ booth to center stage.
But La Reina’s journey into Tejano music didn’t happen overnight.
From the DJ Booth to Center Stage
Before audiences knew La Reina as a vocalist and bandleader, she spent more than a decade working as a club and mobile DJ throughout Texas.
Those years taught her how to read a crowd, understand energy and connect with an audience. Eventually, singing became a bigger part of her performances, including appearances connected to the Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair in San Antonio.
It soon became clear that the longtime DJ could do more than keep the music going—she could command a stage.
La Reina eventually stepped out from behind the DJ booth and became the frontwoman of her own live Tejano band.
After years of playing other artists’ music, she was ready to make music of her own.
“Todavía Te Amo” Opens the Door
La Reina’s recording breakthrough began with “Todavía Te Amo,” released in 2025.
The single introduced her music to Tejano radio audiences beyond the crowds who already knew her from live performances. The response was immediate, with the song climbing to the top of radio airplay charts at several Tejano internet stations.
The success also brought recognition during the 2026 Premios Tejano Mundial season, where La Reina was identified among the Top 5 nominees for New Artist of the Year, while “Todavía Te Amo” received recognition for Canción del Año (Chicano).
Taking the Music Beyond Texas
As her profile grew, La Reina expanded her reach beyond West Texas, becoming part of the Tejano Takeover Series in Florida and performing for audiences outside her home state.
Her years as a DJ continue to influence her live performances. She understands pacing, energy and audience interaction—and knows that performing is about more than simply singing a song.
It’s about making the audience feel like they are part of the experience.
“En El Olvido” Keeps the Momentum Going
If “Todavía Te Amo” opened the door, “En El Olvido” is helping push it wider.
Released in 2026, the song was written and produced by AJ Torres of Valencio Music, a producer, singer and songwriter who has developed a strong following on Spotify.
The collaboration pairs Torres’ songwriting and production with La Reina’s growing identity as a vocalist and performer.
“En El Olvido” has continued building momentum on Tejano radio, reaching the top of the radio airplay charts at several internet stations and further establishing La Reina as an artist to watch.
The Musicians Behind La Reina
La Reina is backed by a seasoned group of musicians who bring experience and energy to her live show:
- Jeremy Ramos — Vocals / Drums
- Freddy Martinez — Bass
- Abel Luna — Guitar / Bajo
- John Gabriel Martinez — Vocals / Accordion / Keyboards
- Lupe Martinez — Congas

Music Therapy Is on the Way
With “En El Olvido” gaining momentum, La Reina is already looking toward her next chapter.
She is currently working on her upcoming album, Music Therapy.
The project will feature songs from multiple songwriters, allowing La Reina to explore different stories, emotions and musical perspectives while continuing to develop her identity as a recording artist.
Among the contributors is Heather Jolene Alcantar of Alcantar Muzick, who also serves as La Reina’s official promoter.
A Career Built on Experience
It would be easy to look at La Reina’s growing chart success and describe her as a new artist suddenly breaking through.
But there are years behind this moment.
There are years of performing, learning audiences and understanding what makes people move. There are years of standing behind other artists’ music before deciding it was time to step forward with her own.
That experience is now becoming one of her greatest assets.
La Reina didn’t enter the music business unfamiliar with audiences. She had already spent more than a decade studying them—from behind the DJ booth.
Now, she’s on the other side of the microphone.
The Queen Is Just Getting Started
La Reina’s story is part of a growing wave of independent Tejano artists finding audiences through radio, streaming, social media and live performances.
For the Lubbock native, the journey has already produced a successful debut single, recognition from Premios Tejano Mundial, performances outside Texas, a seasoned live band and growing airplay for her music across Tejano internet radio.
With “En El Olvido” continuing to gain traction and Music Therapy on the horizon, La Reina is building on the momentum one song at a time.
The woman who once stood behind the DJ booth playing everybody else’s hits is now hearing her own music at the top of the charts.
La Reina isn’t waiting for her moment. She’s already making it happen.
