A new era for Tejano music is taking center stage this summer with the launch of TEJANO NEXT, a national vocal competition dedicated to discovering and elevating the next generation of Tejano superstars.
Designed as a high-visibility platform for emerging artists, TEJANO NEXT invites singers from all backgrounds to step into the spotlight and showcase their talent. With a mission rooted in preserving and advancing the legacy of Tejano music, the competition aims to empower fresh voices while strengthening the genre’s cultural impact for years to come.
“This is where rising voices step into the spotlight,” organizers emphasize, as the competition opens its doors to aspiring vocalists ready to take their careers to the next level.
Presented by the Academy of Tejano Music and Tejano 360 Network — the producers behind Premios Tejano Mundial — TEJANO NEXT is more than just a contest. It’s a launchpad.
Only one finalist will be crowned the grand prize winner, earning a prize package designed to jumpstart a professional career. The winner will receive a professionally recorded debut single, an official music video, a debut performance at Premios Tejano Mundial 2027, and a potential opportunity to perform the national anthem at a San Antonio Spurs game (pending team approval).
The competition is open to unsigned artists only, ensuring a level playing field for independent talent. As an Equal Opportunity Competition, TEJANO NEXT welcomes participants of all backgrounds who are ready to represent the future of Tejano music.
To enter, contestants must submit three performance samples — a ranchera, cumbia, and ballad cover — showcasing their vocal range and versatility. Submissions can be shared via Google Drive, YouTube, Facebook, or TikTok, giving artists flexibility in how they present their talent.
Participants are encouraged to draw inspiration from a wide range of Tejano styles and influences, including progressive, conjunto, norteño, and Tejano pop. Artists such as Progressive: Jay Perez, La Mafia, Mazz, Emilio Navaira, Bobby Pulido; Conjunto: Los Garcia Brothers, David Farias, Los Palominos; Norteño: Ramon Ayala, Intocable, Frontera, Siggno; Tejano Pop: Kumbia Kings, Selena, Stefani Montiel, and Zavala represent just a sample of the genre’s rich musical landscape.
Selected contestants will advance to the live performance stage, where they’ll perform three songs backed by a live band. Winners will be determined through a combination of celebrity judge scores and live audience voting, including streaming viewers who can cast votes via text.
With its bold vision to become the leading national platform for emerging Tejano artists, TEJANO NEXT is setting the stage for a new generation to rise.
For those with the passion, voice, and drive to succeed, the message is simple: your journey starts now.
