SAN ANTONIO, TX — Organizers of the Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair announced Sunday afternoon that the event would close early at 5 p.m. due to hazardous weather conditions forecast across South-Central Texas.
According to organizers with the Texas Talent Musicians Association, the decision followed the latest forecast from the National Weather Service warning of strong to very strong winds combined with extremely dry air — conditions that could create critical fire weather across the region from Sunday afternoon through Monday evening.
Officials said the weather threat includes sustained west winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph early in the afternoon, shifting later to north winds of 20 to 35 mph with stronger gusts reaching 45 to 55 mph.
The warning affects all of South-Central Texas and surrounding areas as a dryline and incoming cold front move through the region.
Event organizers apologized for the early closure but emphasized that safety remains the top priority.
“Our first priority is the safety of the fans and those associated with the event that make it possible,” organizers said in a statement.
The popular four-day music festival was held at Hemisfair Park in downtown San Antonio and drew thousands of Tejano and Conjunto music fans from around the world. The event featured more than 150 bands from the United States and Mexico performing across multiple stages throughout the weekend.
Despite the early closure on Sunday, the festival once again highlighted the global reach and enduring popularity of Tejano and Conjunto music while bringing together artists, fans, and industry leaders for one of the genre’s largest annual gatherings.
