Chris Martinez turns the pain of losing his mother into a deeply personal song about love, loss, and finding his way back to music

For Grupo Entrego vocalist and songwriter Chris Martinez, music has always been personal. But his latest single, “Regresa,” carries a meaning that reaches far beyond the stage.

The emotional new release is a tribute to Martinez’s late mother, Mary Martinez, whose death in 2004 led him to step away from music for nearly two decades.

In 2004, Chris was in San Antonio recording music when he received word that his mother had become ill. He immediately returned home, but just days later, Mary passed away on December 8, 2004.

The loss profoundly affected Martinez. He walked away from performing and spent nearly 20 years away from music.

Finding His Way Back

Martinez’s return to music came unexpectedly in 2023 when his daughter asked him to reunite his band to perform at her wedding.

What started as a special moment for his daughter ultimately became the spark that brought Chris back to music.

With his children older and life in a different chapter, Martinez realized he was ready to perform again. Since returning, he says he has continued to experience moments that remind him of his mother and reassure him that he is on the right path.

Those feelings became the foundation for “Regresa.”

The song captures the universal longing that comes with losing someone you love—the wish that you could have that person back, even if only for one more moment.

“Regresa, te lo pido, siquiera un minuto más…”

The single is dedicated to the loving memory of Mary Martinez (June 12, 1954 – December 8, 2004).

Keeping It Close to Home

Grupo Entrego also kept the production of the project close to its West Texas roots.

The official music video for “Regresa” was filmed at The Railroad Venue in Big Spring, Texas, giving the band an opportunity to showcase a local setting while supporting and bringing attention to the community.

Chris and Grupo Entrego extend a special thank-you to venue owners Abel and Amy Gonzales for allowing the band to film at the location.

The video was filmed by Ryan Bazan of RB Films, who traveled from San Antonio for the production.

A Family Affair Behind the Music

“Regresa” brings together musicians from across the region while also featuring members of Martinez’s family.

Chris Martinez provides the lead vocals and wrote the song, while Erick Martinez, drummer, producer and co-owner of Grupo Entrego, produced the track.

Erick has played an important role in the band’s musical development, helping shape its evolving sound and bring the group’s vision to life.

The recording also features Michael Ramos, formerly of Gary Hobbs and Loca Pasion, on saxophone. Ramos joins Grupo Entrego as the band’s newest addition.

The lineup on “Regresa” also includes Chance Coppedge of Tulsa, Oklahoma, on bass; Richard Losoya on accordion; Albert Moncibias on bajo sexto; and Amber Martinez, Chris’s daughter, providing backup vocals.

The song was recorded at The Gruene Room in New Braunfels, Texas, with Eddie Perez and Orlando Hargrove handling engineering and mastering.

A New Chapter for Grupo Entrego

More than two decades after losing his mother and stepping away from music, Chris Martinez has found his way back—and “Regresa” represents the emotional journey that brought him here.

The song transforms personal grief into something listeners can connect with, honoring a mother’s memory while marking a new chapter for an artist who once believed his musical journey had ended.

The single is available on all major digital music platforms.
