SAN ANTONIO, TX — Multiple Latin Grammy Award-winning Tejano legend David Lee Garza, affectionately known as “The Godfather of Tejano,” shared a heartfelt video message to fans on Tuesday (Oct. 7), days after being hospitalized in San Antonio. The message comes following the cancellation of his scheduled performances last week with his iconic band, David Lee Garza Y Los Musicales.
According to a joint statement from Freddie Records and JRod Music, Garza was admitted to San Antonio Baptist Hospital on Friday, October 3, after experiencing shortness of breath and fatigue. His longtime manager and representative, Joey Rodriguez, revealed that doctors discovered fluid buildup in Garza’s lungs. The Tejano star remained under observation through the weekend as a precautionary measure.
In his video message, Garza appeared in good spirits, expressing deep appreciation for the overwhelming outpouring of prayers and well wishes.
“I’d like to take a minute to thank the good Lord up above, primeramente, and to thank my fans, my family, my friends, for all the prayers, all the blessings I received this past weekend,” he said. “I was admitted in the hospital on Friday not feeling well, but by Sunday I got out feeling way, way much better. I’d like to thank Dr. Tan, the great staff at the Downtown Baptist Hospital of San Antonio, Freddie Records, Joey Rodriguez, and Los Musicales for understanding everything we’re going through. What can I say—I just feel very blessed to have all my fans and friends behind me with all your prayers and blessings. Thank you so much. I can’t wait to get back on stage this coming weekend somewhere here in Texas.”
Garza’s return to performing could come as soon as Sunday, October 12, when David Lee Garza Y Los Musicales are scheduled to take the stage at the Barbacoa & Big Red Festival in San Antonio, Texas. He will also host his 28th annual David Lee Garza Charity Golf Tournament in Pleasanton, Texas, on Monday, October 13.
With a career spanning more than four decades, David Lee Garza remains a cornerstone of Tejano music, having shaped its sound and spirit for generations. From timeless classics to his most recent single, “Atormentando,” currently climbing Tejano radio charts, his legacy continues to grow. A new album is also in the works, set for release later this year.
As fans celebrate his recovery and look forward to seeing him back on stage, Garza’s message of gratitude serves as a reminder of the deep connection between the Tejano icon and the community that has supported him throughout his legendary career.
