San Antonio, TX — Multiple Latin Grammy Award-winning Tejano legend David Lee Garza, widely recognized as “The Godfather of Tejano,” has been hospitalized, leading to the cancellation of his scheduled performances this week with his band, David Lee Garza Y Los Musicales.
According to a statement from Freddie Records and JRod Music, Garza was admitted to San Antonio Baptist Hospital on Friday, October 3, after experiencing shortness of breath and fatigue. His longtime manager and representative, Joey Rodriguez, shared that doctors found fluid buildup in Garza’s lungs. He remains under observation through the weekend as a precautionary measure.
“All scheduled performances for this week have been canceled,” the band said in a joint statement. “David Lee Garza Y Los Musicales sincerely apologize to all of our fans who were looking forward to seeing us this weekend. We ask that you keep David in your prayers as he rests and recovers. We look forward to being back on stage with him very soon.”

With a career spanning more than four decades, Garza has become a cornerstone of Tejano music, inspiring generations of musicians and beloved by fans worldwide. His influence continues with timeless songs and classic albums, while his latest single, “Atormentando”, is currently climbing Tejano radio charts. A new album is also set for release later this year.
Freddie Records noted that updates will be provided as they become available.
