SAN ANTONIO, TX — Shelly Lares, the Tejano music legend and LGBTQ+ activist, will be honored with the Legacy Award at the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) dinner and auction on Saturday, August 5, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas. The award recognizes Lares’ long-standing commitment to advancing equality and inclusion for the LGBTQ+ community.
Lares, who came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community in 2008, has been a vocal supporter of HRC and its mission to end discrimination and achieve fundamental fairness for all. She has also used her platform as a singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer to celebrate the diversity and beauty of LGBTQ+ identities and cultures. She is a member of the Tejano Hall of Fame and has won several awards at the Tejano Music Awards throughout her career.
“I’m so honored to be receiving the Legacy Award from the Human Rights Campaign,” commented Lares. “It’s such a huge honor to live and work as my true self.”
The Tejano icon wrote and produced a Pride anthem, “Break Through”, last year that featured Latin artist Eric Lee and rapper Squishy, and expressed her outlook on life.
The HRC dinner and auction is an annual fundraiser that supports the organization’s work to mobilize equality voters, educate the public, and advocate for pro-equality policies and litigation. HRC is the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer civil rights organization in the United States.
The 2023 Human Rights Campaign San Antonio dinner and auction will take place at the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter, 101, Bowie Street, on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at p.m. Tickets are available online at sanantonio.hrc.org.

It’s a shame to honor twisted things. Jesus made it plain in Matthew 19, that GOD made male & female.. not.male and.male nor female & female.
