Selena fans, get ready to add a new item to your collection with a way to enjoy the music of the “Queen of Tejano.” Bumpboxx, the Bluetooth retro boombox company co-founded by Houston rapper Trae Tha Truth, is releasing the Selena X Bumpboxx Remixx, a limited-edition system that pays tribute to the late icon. The Selena X Bumpboxx Remixx will be available at 10 a.m. CT Friday on the Bumpboxx site.
The new boombox is purple, black and white, featuring images of Selena and her signature rose. The coolest part? It’s in the shape of a cassette, giving it a nostalgic vibe. It also comes with a shoulder strap, a microphone, and dry erase markers so you can write on the face, similar to labeling a mixtape like back in the day. When the system connects to Bluetooth, you hear Selena sing, “bidi bidi bom bom!”
The Remixx follows the 2020 release of the Selena x Bumpboxx Limited Edition Flare6 that sold out within a day. That was followed by a mini wearable boombox and a Bluetooth speaker in the shape of an old-school pager.
Bumpboxx sent the Remixx to Selena’s sister Suzette Quintanilla and widower Chris Perez, who posted unboxing videos on Instagram.
Suzette Quintanilla expressed her excitement about the new product. “It’s finally here. This is the new Selena Bumpboxx Remixx that I’ve been waiting for to come in. It’s been almost two years to have it finally here,” she shared on Instagram. “It looks like a shape of a cassette. Old school, going retro. It is the first of its kind in the world for Bumpboxx to look like a cassette. Look how beautiful that is, this pretty hella cool!”
Chris Perez, who was the lead guitarist of Selena y Los Dinos, also shared his enthusiasm for the Remixx. “What I love about it already is that you’ve got the speakers on the front and its also speakers in the back. So it’s a 360-degree design of sound,” he said on Instagram.
