Mike Gonzalez & The Iconiczz released their latest single “Mi Necesidad,” a song from the group’s highly-anticipated new album, Te Llevo En Mi Alma, due out later this month on all digital music platforms.
The song was written by Samuel Ramos Jr, of Grupo Retoño, and produced by his older brother Salomon Ramos, bajo sexto player for Grupo Control, under the watchful eye of Mike Gonzalez seeking to continue the incomparable sound and musical legacy of his late father, Tejano icon Jimmy Gonzalez, who passed away in 2018.
“He was a perfectionist. He wanted to hear things the way he produced them, there was no cutting corners. It was going to be the way he did it,” said Mike Gonzalez in an interview with morning host Jonny Ramirez on San Antonio radio station Tejano 95.7/103.3 FM. “I never in my wildest dreams thought I was going to make an album without my father so this one is special to me. Hopefully y’all enjoy it and we put a lot of time into it. I mean, I love it.”
Jimmy Gonzalez is remembered as a pioneer, icon, and one of the most influential artists in Tejano music leading Grupo Mazz to multiple Grammy Awards and Latin Grammy Awards.
“Mi Necesidad” features vocals of Iconiczz lead singer Alex Basulto and backup vocals of Di Marie. The song is available to stream or download on all digital music platforms. The full album, Te Llevo En Mi Alma, is scheduled for release on digital platforms on January 13, which was officially released on Dec. 31, 2022.
