Rock built the legend. Now, Jaxx Fenixx is taking that same passion, energy and powerful voice into a new musical chapter — Tejano.

The versatile artist, songwriter and performer, who began his career in rock, is embracing his love for Tejano with the release of his new four-song EP, “Norteño Light.” The project blends a retro-modern sound inspired by the Norteño Light era with Fenixx’s own style and experience as a performer.

The EP features the lead single “Ahora Que Te Conviene,” along with “Alguien Más Te Hace Feliz,” “Qué Voy a Hacer” and “Falsas Caricias.”

Fenixx is also familiar to Tejano fans as a co-host of the popular YouTube show “#PVT with Rock-n-Roll James,”where he has interviewed numerous Tejano artists and shared the stage with some of the genre’s biggest names. He continues to perform with the rock band Hair Factory, but his longtime love for Tejano eventually pushed him to create a project of his own.

“I like rock but I love Tejano and now one of my biggest dreams has finally come true,” Fenixx told Tejano Nation.

‘Ahora Que Te Conviene’ Started It All

The idea for the EP began with “Ahora Que Te Conviene,” a song Fenixx originally wrote with another artist in mind.

“About a year ago I wrote the single ‘Ahora Que Te Conviene’ thinking about selling it to Grupo Siggno and I sent it to Jesse Turner and he left me on read, haha,” Fenixx recalled.

Instead of shelving the song, Fenixx decided to record it himself.

“To me it was a great song with lots of potential,” he said.

The project gained momentum when Fenixx connected with producer Temo Gomez, whose production credits include Frontera, Duelo, Solido and Secretto, along with work involving artists such as Gloria Trevi and Mario Marichalar.

“So I knew I was in good hands,” Fenixx said.

With Gomez ready to begin recording, Fenixx challenged himself to bring more material to the studio.

“He told me he’d be available in about a week so we can start recording and I ended up writing three more songs in a week and we got to work,” he said.

“Instead of showing up with just one song I wanted to show up with as much material as possible and these four songs were the outcome of that.”

Paying Homage to the Norteño Light Era

The EP’s title is a direct nod to the sound that influenced Fenixx during the 2000s.

“I named the EP ‘Norteño Light’ because back in the 2000s bands like Intenso, Costumbre, Intocable and Solido were dominating the airwaves and their style of music was called Norteño Light,” he said.

Fenixx wanted to capture the spirit of that era while giving it a contemporary treatment.

“So I wanted to pay homage to that era and write music inspired by that epic time in music history,” he explained. “That’s why the EP has a retro-modern sound.”

The result is a project that reflects both nostalgia and a new beginning, bringing together the influences that shaped Fenixx with his growing passion for Tejano.

A New Musical Chapter

For Fenixx, “Norteño Light” represents more than a genre change. It is an opportunity to finally pursue a musical direction that has been calling him for years.

“I like rock but I love Tejano,” he said.

And he isn’t ruling out expanding the project.

“If it all goes well I will add more songs making it a full album,” Fenixx said.

For an artist who has spent years on rock stages and immersed himself in the Tejano community through “#PVT,” the next step is putting his own songs at the center of the conversation.

Jaxx Fenixx’s “Norteño Light” EP is available now on all major digital music platforms.
