San Antonio, TX — Two-time Latin Grammy nominee Grupo Alamo returns with their new studio album titled Camino al Progreso, which contains nine new studio recordings featuring Mark Ledesma on lead vocals.
The highly-anticipated album includes Latin Grammy winner Juan Treviño lending his vocal style to “La Potranquita,” a cumbia that will get everyone dancing, and Ernesto Gonzales sings a classic conjunto song. A few of Nashville’s most sought-after musicians join Grupo Alamo on two English-style cumbias which are must-hear collaborations.
“It was cool because we got to play with some of our friends in Nashville that play with Reba McEntire, a couple of them play with Martina McBride, and another friend of ours that has probably recorded over 300 or 400 number one hits,” Gonzales tells Tejano Nation about the album. “They got to play on a couple of songs with us and some harmonies and it was cool because it was something new for us, it was something new for them and they just loved being able to get involved in a new style of music and we just had a blast.”
Camino al Progreso was recorded and produced in Nashville and San Antonio during the pandemic and mixed at the famed Blackbird Studios in “Music City.”
“The album title came about maybe three years ago when we started working on the album,” said Gonzales. “We were shooting a documentary on the band, looking back on where we started and seeing how we seem to progress every album, every year as we try something different and that was really the first meaning of the album and then we went through the pandemic and then all the stuff that has been happening recently and when the album came out it was a whole other meaning for all of us. It’s a way to move forward no matter what situation we’re in or what happens we always have to progress and move forward.”
The brand new single titled “Confianza” is written by Percy Cardona and Juan Treviño and is a powerful progressive keyboard-driven Tejano ranchera that showcases Grupo Alamo’s classic style, which has been entertaining fans since 1993.
Camino al Progreso from Grupo Alamo is available to stream or download on all digital music platforms. The CD is available to purchase at GrupoAlamo.net.
