Joe Lopez will make his highly-anticipated return to the stage in Houston on December 13 and the first stop on his Freedom Tour will be streamed live.
“Don’t miss out tomorrow my big return to stage at my official page,” read a caption to a video posted on the page. “Follow the #FreedomTour from Houston, Texas through Facebook Live and share!”
This will be the first performance for Lopez since being paroled from prison in March 2018.
The Grammy-award winning singer’s career came to a halt in 2006 when he was convicted of raping his 13-year-old niece. He served 12 years of a 20-year prison sentence.
The 69-year-old singer is trying to relaunch his singing career with a sold-out performance Friday night at El Rodeo in Houston. He had to get approval from the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles for the event because of an original condition of his parole included not be allowed in Harris county, where the victim in his case lives.
That condition was modified recently solely for employment purposes, according to the Texas Board of Pardons and Parole, because of his satisfactory parole compliance since being released from prison.
“In making the decision, the parole panel reviewed his satisfactory compliance with parole since his release date of March 2018,” said Raymond Estrada, spokesperson for the Texas Board of Pardons and Parole. “Additionally, the board recognizes the importance of employment as being a critical component to successful re-entry for offenders, and if public safety is not compromised, we support such initiatives.”
