Selena’s brother, A.B. Quintanilla posted his excitement about the news on his official Facebook page moments after the winner was announced.

“Congrats little sister!!! Your music still rocks!!!”

So, how did Selena get nominated for the award? She was actually nominated for two 2016 Billboard Latin Music Awards, due to Lo Mejor De…Selena, a best of compilation released in March 2015 that spent 44 weeks on the Latin Pop Albums chart, climbing to the No. 2 spot.  Selena was also nominated for Female Artist of the Year.

In 2015, the Billboard Latin Music Awards paid tribute to Selena with a performance by Jennifer Lopez, who portrayed the fallen star in the Selena biopic, and Selena’s band Los Dinos.

With the second annual Fiesta de la Flor Festival, a music festival honoring Selena, scheduled for May 6-7 in Corpus Christi, Texas, and her upcoming M·A·C Cosmetics make-up line scheduled for release in October, Selena’s legacy continues to flourish, even over two decades after her death.
