A.B. Quintanilla shared photos and a Facebook live video of artist Rob Ferrel creating a portrait of Selena Quintanilla-Perez with salt on Monday night.
“I’ve had the honor of meeting a very, very talented, friend of mine, carnal, homie,” Quintanilla of Ferrel in the video. “He’s not only an amazing barber, he’s an amazing artist.”
Ferrel, known as Rob The Original, is a San Antonio Hair Artist & Master Barber who uses new media to educate and display his work around the world, according to his website RobTheOriginal.com.
“We’re going to do a portrait in honor of Selena,” Ferrel said in the video. “This portrait is going to be, not in hair, not on paper, not on a wall, but with salt.”
The one and half hour video was the very first live stream portrait that Ferrel has ever done.
“I can’t say how honored I am to do this with A.B. here and all you guys together,” Ferrel added. “Hopefully you’ll enjoy what I’m going to do here.”
Ferrel is known for using unlikely mediums to make art, including unique hair designs from his shop, Rob The Original’s Barber Shop at 14418 Jones Maltsberger Road in San Antonio. You can see many more unique art at his official Facebook page, Facebook.com/RobTheOriginal.
