Janie Esparza, owner of the iconic San Antonio record store, Janie’s Record Shop, is recovering after hip surgery on Monday, her family says.
“Today our mother Janie is in the hospital recovering from hip surgery,” read a post on the Janie’s Record Shop official Facebook page. “Our mother who has never spent the night in a hospital is doing well. The surgery was successful and she is in her own room being monitored by all the great doctors and nurses at local SA hospital. She will be out of action for at least a couple of months. We do ask for your prayers and blessings as she continues to heal.”
Esparza recently celebrated 30 years in business this past summer. The iconic record store has been providing Tejano and Conjunto music to fans all over the world and has been selling the best in La Onda since August 1, 1985.
Janie’s Record Shop was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the South Texas Conjunto Association earlier this month and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Texas Talent Musicians Association in 2011.
Tejano Nation sends our prayers to Esparza for a speedy recovery.
