Longtime KXTN morning show host Jonny Ramírez has been let go from the Univision Radio station in San Antonio, according to sources.

A Facebook post by Ramírez may confirm the parting of a true San Antonio treasure and one of the city’s most beloved celebrities.

“In the late Dandy Don Meredith’s singing voice, “Turn out the lights, the party is over” Best run of my life! Thank you mi gente, love ya forever and a moon!”

Ramirez has been a part of KXTN for over 22 years, since joining the station in 1993.

This story is still developing, Tejano Nation will have more as it becomes available.

I am from Milwaukee wi and we don’t have a radio station with Tejano music.I could not find a station with Tejano music until I heard about a radio station in San Antonio and was very happy to hear the music i grew up with, music my dad and grandfather listen to and all my family as well. And when i heard Jonny Ramirez well that top it of he is a real tejano and knows what people like to listen to. He and Javi make the station, it will not be the same with out Jonny. I have not hear any other station with musci thant KXTN plays.

My husband is from Texas and I am from New Jersey. He is Latino and I am caucasion. We met and married in Mississippi. My husband introduced me to tejano music and to KXTN. We have listened to Jonny (and all of the other personalities) for many years – KXTN is streaming into our home most of the day and much of the night. Whereas we may not always agree with everything that is said on KXTN, we agree with much – this is what makes the world go round and makes for interesting, fun and sometimes thought provoking conversation. We love the traditional tejano music and the format of the station. Jonny will be sorely missed – we loved his craziness in the mornings! Welcome back Bigg Boyeee – we hope that you, Baby J, Jammin’ J and the rest will continue to stay at KXTN, take our requests, entertain, and play all of those wonderful tejano tunes.

Hope San Antonio don’t lose your tejano station like we did in Odessa tx. Same type programing same songs over and over until it was flipped to hip hop now its a country station. So if your told that there is a tejano station on Odessa Midland they are lying to you no such animal. I know I’m a formerjock from the former Tejano 96.1

Sorry t hear Jonny has been. Let go . He is a great radio personality and will be missed by listeners .there is a weird change going on in the music business and it’s trickling down to the radio stations . Instead of coming up with new ideas to keep the stations new and fresh , they want to get rid of the one good thing they have .

Univision , the Bastards that shut down the Tejano station in Houston, due to the fact there were Mexicans , Central Americans, and others from South America, felt they had a stronger market with them than our own Tejano Citizens.

I think a bunch of us should get together start our own radio station.Have Jonny Ramirez DJ it along with other tejano DJs.Because Tejano music has been around for a very long time.Because when i would get up in the morning to go to school my parents would be listening to tejano music it was a familia thing. Now I’m 59yrs. old and children and my grandchildren know what Tejano music is all about. Tejano music is about our culture our race our way of life. Not about money or politics. This is the only thing that tells us that we have our own music and now other powers that be want to take that away from us. To silence us. To silence our music.

We have been battling this over and over again and again and yet we are at fault for not working together knowing it was going to happen again. We have some many organization, Luc,Knight of Columbus’s,Tejano Coalition, just to name a few and their are many more which should come out and represent our people which they where elected to serve.why are these organization not speaking out for us.This one important issue we need to address because it effects all Tejanos publicly and privately so are we going to stand by and take this sitting down or are we going to do something about .I’m a Tejano and I’m ready to take a stand again.

I for one am glad that he’s gone. The format he incorporated was not keeping with traditional Tejano music. All that hip hop, old school tunes and country music made me stop listening to 107.5 and use Pandora more often and also started listening to other stations.
Don’t go away mad, just go away!

iT WAS ABOUT TIME!! Ramirez went on and on and on.
Usually with stupid storylines and boring conversation. He talked for 20 minutes at a time and play 1 or 2 songs, then he would yak yak yak for another 30 minutes.
Glad to see him gone! : )
Now maybe I will listen to KXTN in the morning.

I feel there is not that much `Tejano’ music anymore, that is why the format changed, instead of listening to the same songs over and over. That is why i stopped listening and alot of my friends too. We are part of the ‘Old original tejano BabyBoomers’ groupies. I ‘m also angry that 1350 am, kcor station changed to Christian music now! So i guess we older Hispanics don’t exist! We are not dead yet! Why doesnt a huge city like San Antonio doesnt have a good musica romantica station? Instead of that BANDA (CIRCUS) music.. UNIVISION NEEDS TO LOOK AT san antonio age group too, we have the most spending power !

And of course want to say Great Job on Jammin J, I have always enjoyed him.

Yes face it we are Bri g invaded look at what inivision did in Dallas and Houston. They took the tenant FM stations and put there mexican or whatever music on what was tejano.tejano music was then broadcasted on some weak AM station that can barely be heard on the the very city that’s it’s broadcasted from Lets get real we were betrayed by the people who sold out to inivision. GREED !! So sad
