Emerging music sensation Cleiri has released her new single, “Si Dios Me Quita La Vida,” a romantic mariachi ballad that takes listeners on a journey through her ancestral roots and the rich musical tradition of Jalisco, Mexico.
The track, penned by famed composer Luis Demetrio and produced by Rick Garcia, was released on CHR Records. It is a poignant reflection of Cleiri’s deep connection to her heritage and the musical legacy of her ancestors.
Cleiri shared with Tejano Nation, “I sing for the life I never knew. My songs are dedicated to the people I never met, in the hope that they will see or hear me someday.”
Cleiri’s journey of self-discovery began in her late teens when she was introduced to her father’s aunt. She was shown photos of her great-great-grandparents, who were musicians and dancers. They toured Jalisco and all over Mexico, performing with Mariachi de Tecalitlan and Pedro Infante. They were pioneers of the beautiful blend of sounds we call mariachi.
“In today’s terms, Jalisco is considered the birthplace of mariachi. The region’s rich musical tradition and history have earned it this distinction. I’m proud of that history, which in so many ways belongs to me too,” Cleiri said.
The song “Si Dios Me Quita La Vida,” like many other romantic mariachi ballads, allows us to peek into a life that no longer exists. “It’s nostalgia and it’s euphoria. This music takes us all somewhere we’ve never been. A world where our ancestors lived romance, experienced hardships and overcame them – but in a completely different world strange to us now,” Cleiri added.
For Cleiri, music fills a void, but mariachi music transcends her into a place where that void doesn’t exist. It takes her home, if only just for a moment.
“Si Dios Me Quita La Vida” is available on all digital music platforms. To learn more about Cleiri and her music, visit her official website at Cleiri.com.
