Newly circulating video footage is shedding more light on the moments surrounding a medical emergency for Tejano music star Michael Salgado during a performance in Safford, Arizona, on October 9, 2026.
The 55-year-old singer, known for his distinctive voice and accordion-driven Tejano and norteño sound, can be seen experiencing difficulty during the performance before receiving assistance from others and being helped off the stage.
The footage comes from a 6-minute, 28-second Facebook Live video filmed by Raul Castro Sr. As the performance continues, Salgado appears to struggle onstage, with the most significant moments unfolding around the four-minute mark.
As people move to assist the singer, his brother, Ernie Salgado, addresses fans and explains that the band is taking a short break to check on his brother.
The video offers a glimpse of the unfolding situation from the audience’s perspective as the performance comes to an unexpected pause.
Michael Salgado Later Shares Stroke Diagnosis
Following the incident, Michael Salgado released an official statement confirming that he had suffered a stroke shortly after performing his first song in Safford.
According to the singer, he was initially transported by ambulance to a local hospital before being airlifted to a hospital in Tucson, Arizona, for further medical attention.
Two days later, he returned home to San Antonio, Texas, where his medical team continued monitoring his condition and conducting additional tests.
Salgado said his cardiologist, neurologist and stroke specialist subsequently recommended that he temporarily stop performing to rest and allow doctors to continue evaluating his health.
As a result, his upcoming performances were expected to be postponed for the next couple of weeks, pending further medical evaluation and clearance to return to the stage.
“Music and performing for all of you have always been a huge part of my life,” Salgado said in his statement. “While it is difficult for me to step away from something I love so much, I understand that my health and recovery must come first.”
Fans Rally Around the Tejano Music Star
Salgado also thanked fans, family members, fellow musicians and others who have reached out with messages of encouragement and prayers following the medical emergency.
He asked supporters to continue keeping him and his family in their thoughts as he focuses on his recovery.
“With God’s help, continued prayers, and the care of my medical team, [I] look forward to the day I can return to the stage and do what I love most — performing for all of you,” he said.
The singer has not announced a specific date for his return to live performances, leaving that decision to his medical team.
The circulating video provides additional context to the October 9 incident, while Salgado’s subsequent statement confirms that the medical emergency was a stroke.
