CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — Rising Regional Mexican and Tejano group Grupo Cultura is entering a new chapter after officially signing an exclusive multi-album recording agreement with Freddie Records.
Founded in 2023 by Rio Grande City, Texas, native Alfonso De La Torre, Grupo Cultura has quickly built a growing presence with music rooted in the sounds of Regional Mexican and Tejano. De La Torre serves as the group’s singer, songwriter and accordionist and has cited influential artists including Ramón Ayala, Intocable, Los Palominos, La Mafia and La Firma among his musical inspirations.
The new partnership brings Grupo Cultura to one of the most established labels in Regional Mexican and Tejano music, while giving the band an opportunity to expand its reach with new music and continued touring.
From Independent Releases to Freddie Records
Since forming, Grupo Cultura has independently released nine singles, three EPs and seven official music videos, building a catalog that reflects De La Torre’s musical influences and the band’s developing identity. The band received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Tejano Album in 2025 for their five-track EP Reflexiones.
The group’s latest EP, Desde Adentro, followed a string of independent releases that helped establish Grupo Cultura with fans of both Regional Mexican and Tejano music.
The band’s 2026 single “Ya Me Cansé” became a pivotal release, gaining traction at Regional Mexican and Tejano radio and helping introduce Grupo Cultura’s music to an even wider audience.
The song also caught the attention of Freddie Martinez, Jr., Co-President of Operations and Artist Relations for Freddie Records.
Now, Grupo Cultura is preparing to begin recording its first project under the Freddie Records banner. The group is scheduled to enter Legends Sound Studios soon to begin work on new material.
“Consistency Is the Name of the Game”
For De La Torre, the new recording agreement represents an opportunity to build on what Grupo Cultura has already accomplished without losing the identity that brought the band to this point.
“For us, consistency is the name of the game,” De La Torre says. “What we’ve been doing is working, so we want to continue moving forward with the same identity while expanding our reach, performing more, connecting with more people, and growing Grupo Cultura in every area.”
That philosophy will guide the Latin Grammy-nominated group’s next era as it transitions from an independent act into the Freddie Records family of artists.
A Full-Circle Moment for Alfonso De La Torre
Signing with Freddie Records also carries personal significance for De La Torre, who grew up familiar with the label and its roster of influential artists.
“I’ve known about Freddie Records since the 2000s, when I was still in high school,” De La Torre says. “I grew up knowing the heavy-hitting artists on the label and the history that Freddie Records had already built.”
The opportunity to become part of that history is something De La Torre says he has wanted for years.
“I’ve always wanted the opportunity to be part of Freddie Records, and now we have that opportunity.”
Freddie Records Sees Potential in Grupo Cultura
Freddie Martinez, Jr. says the label recognized something special in Grupo Cultura after hearing the band’s music.
“We’re excited to welcome Alfonso De La Torre and Grupo Cultura to the Freddie Records family of artists,” Martinez, Jr. says. “From the moment I first heard their music, I knew there was something special about this band.”
Martinez, Jr. points specifically to the group’s songwriting and melodic approach as qualities that stood out to the label.
“They already had a great melodic sensibility for songs with strong hooks and meaningful lyrics that tell a story.”
He also believes the group is positioned to reach another level in its career.
“I believe Grupo Cultura is on the cusp of reaching that next level of stardom in their career,” Martinez, Jr. says. “The label is super excited to work with such an incredibly talented young group and can’t wait for their fans to hear what’s coming next.”
A New Chapter for Grupo Cultura
With an established independent catalog, growing radio exposure and a new multi-album partnership with Freddie Records, Grupo Cultura is preparing to take its music to the next level.
The upcoming project will be the group’s first release through Freddie Records, with recording sessions at Legends Sound Studios set to begin soon.
For Grupo Cultura, the deal represents more than a new record contract. It marks the beginning of a new era built on the band’s existing sound, while opening the door to new audiences, new music and continued growth across the Regional Mexican and Tejano music communities.
