A.B. Quintanilla Attorney Jeff Lehrman Says Lawsuit Against Selena Estate Is Coming Next Week

The legal dispute surrounding the Quintanilla family and the management of Selena Quintanilla-Pérez’s estate took another turn Friday after attorney Jeff Lehrman, who represents A.B. Quintanilla III, released a video statement addressing what he described as confusion over whether a lawsuit has already been filed.

In the statement shared on A.B. Quintanilla’s social media accounts, Lehrman said his law firm is preparing a lawsuit against the estate of Selena, which he says is managed by A.B.’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla-Arriaga.

Lehrman emphasized that a lawsuit has not yet been filed, but said his firm intends to file one next week. He also detailed what he says were previous legal demands made on A.B.’s behalf, including requests for an accounting of Selena’s estate and payments he believes are owed to him.

“Myself and my law firm have the privilege and honor of representing A.B. Quintanilla in a soon-to-be-filed lawsuit against the estate of Selena, managed by his sister Suzette,” Lehrman said.

The attorney’s statement represents the latest development in a rapidly escalating family dispute that became public earlier this week.

Lehrman: Demand letters were sent last year

According to Lehrman, A.B. previously served Suzette, in her capacity as executor of Selena’s estate, with several demand letters.

The attorney said those demands included a request for a formal accounting of the estate.

Lehrman explained that an accounting would provide beneficiaries with information concerning the estate’s assets, liabilities and income generated by those assets.

“My client, Mr. Quintanilla, last year served Suzette as the executor of the estate of Selena with several demand letters,” Lehrman said.

He alleged that Suzette has refused to comply with the request.

Lehrman also said the demands sought payments and distributions that A.B. believes he is entitled to receive as a beneficiary.

“As we sit here today, he still has not received” those payments, Lehrman said.7

The attorney further alleged that Suzette responded to the demand but did not provide the financial information requested.

Those allegations have not been proven in court, and Suzette and Marcella Quintanilla have publicly disputed A.B.’s characterization of the situation.

Lawsuit expected next week

Lehrman said his firm is now preparing to formally file the lawsuit.

“There is going to be litigation related to this matter, and there is going to be a lawsuit that is filed, and my firm is preparing that as we speak,” he said.

The attorney said the lawsuit will seek A.B.’s alleged unpaid distributions, income and earnings, as well as an accounting of the estate.

Lehrman also alleged that the litigation could uncover what he described as potential breaches of fiduciary duty by Suzette.

“Myself and my client and my team feel very confident that through litigation, we’re going to be able to uncover quite a bit of fiduciary breaches, breaches of fiduciary duty by Suzette,” he said.

Those remain allegations at this stage. No court has made findings that Suzette breached a fiduciary duty.

Where will the lawsuit be filed?

In his video statement, Lehrman said the case would be adjudicated in the county where he intends to file it next week. Public reporting on the dispute has identified Nueces County, Texas, where Q Productions and the Selena Museum are based, as the location being examined in connection with the potential litigation. The Los Angeles Times reported that it was unable to locate a lawsuit involving Suzette Quintanilla or Suzette Arriaga in Nueces County as of its Sept. 2 report.

The distinction between a lawsuit being planned and one being formally filed and served is central to the conflicting statements issued by the family this week.

A.B.’s role in Selena’s music

Lehrman also emphasized A.B.’s role in Selena’s career, pointing to his work as her producer and songwriter.

“When Selena was alive, he was her producer and writer, and he authored and produced some of the most iconic music that she ever made,” Lehrman said.

The attorney argued that A.B.’s position extends beyond his professional contributions to Selena’s recordings because he is also a beneficiary of the estate.

“In addition to that, he’s also a beneficiary of the estate. And so regardless of his role as a producer, he’s entitled to income, and he’s entitled to very basic accounting, which unfortunately has not been done as of today’s date.”

A.B.’s songwriting and production contributions have long been an important part of the story of Selena’s musical career. He was a member of Selena y Los Dinos and was involved in writing, arranging and producing numerous recordings that helped establish Selena as one of Tejano music’s biggest stars.

A dispute that has unfolded publicly in days

The latest statement follows a series of increasingly public exchanges between A.B., Suzette and their mother, Marcella Quintanilla.

The dispute initially surfaced publicly after reports from Argentine journalist and television personality Javier Ceriani alleged a $48 million legal battle involving A.B. and Suzette.

A.B. subsequently confirmed that a legal dispute involving Suzette and circumstances related to their late father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., existed, but he did not publicly confirm the reported $48 million figure. Tejano Nation previously reported that A.B.’s initial statement did not specify the amount sought or publicly detail the causes of action.

That was followed by a joint statement from Suzette and Marcella disputing A.B.’s claims.

A.B. then responded by saying Suzette and her attorneys had been notified of the legal action by certified mail and email, posting documents that he said supported his position. Univision reported that A.B. characterized the dispute as involving Suzette’s fiduciary duties and claimed she had been notified of the proceedings.

Lehrman’s latest video now adds another significant clarification: the formal lawsuit itself is apparently still forthcoming, while the attorney maintains that demand letters were previously served.

A family dispute now entering a legal phase

The Quintanilla family has been intertwined with Selena’s music and business legacy for decades. A.B., Suzette and Selena performed together as members of Selena y Los Dinos, while their father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., managed and guided the family’s musical career.

Following Selena’s death in 1995, the family became central to the preservation and commercial management of her legacy.

Abraham Quintanilla Jr. died in December 2025, adding another layer to the family’s current circumstances.

Now, less than a year after his death, the disagreements surrounding Selena’s estate and A.B.’s claims have become a public legal dispute.

For now, the two sides remain sharply divided over what has occurred.

Suzette and Marcella have questioned whether a lawsuit has actually been filed, while A.B. and his attorney maintain that formal legal action is coming and that previous demands were properly delivered.

Lehrman closed his statement by telling followers to expect additional developments.

“There’s a lot that’s going to be discussed and disclosed here, some as early as next week, but it’s going to be a long process until this case is finally resolved,” he said.

He added that he remains confident A.B. will ultimately receive what he believes he is entitled to.

“And at the end of it, we remain confident that my client will get what he’s entitled to. And that justice will be served.”

Until a complaint is formally filed and the allegations are tested through the legal process, the claims made by both sides remain allegations.
