CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Tejano music icon and two-time Latin Grammy Award winner Bobby Pulido is making a special trip to Corpus Christi this Saturday morning for a celebration that is about much more than music.
Pulido, who is running for Congress in Texas’ 15th Congressional District, will make a special appearance from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Hi Ho Mexican Restaurant on Corpus Christi’s West Side to celebrate the 15th birthday, or XV, of Anthony Humberto Lopez, a King High School mascot who is autistic and a devoted fan of Pulido’s music.
The special appearance was shared by Carlos Lopez, co-founder of Lopez Broadcasting, who said he was deeply touched that Pulido was willing to make the trip despite his busy schedule.
“My son, Anthony Humberto Lopez is a King High School Mascot and is autistic, who will be celebrating his XV birthday this Saturday,” Lopez said. “I am very touched by Bobby making time from his extremely busy schedule to be able make a special trip to spend one hour with my son who loves his music.”

Pulido is expected to serenade Anthony and present him with XV birthday merchandise, similar to the special merchandise he has provided to other young celebrants during recent visits throughout South Texas.
The visit continues a tradition Pulido has embraced during his congressional campaign, making appearances at quinceañeras and XV birthday celebrations for South Texas families. The former Tejano star has used these personal appearances to connect directly with families and young fans throughout the region while campaigning for Congress.
Lopez said Pulido had hoped to attend Anthony’s evening celebration but was unable to do so because of his previously scheduled commitment to perform in Beeville. Rather than miss the occasion, Pulido chose to make a separate trip to Corpus Christi specifically for Anthony.
“This act of kindness speaks volumes of Bobby’s character and heart,” Lopez said.
From the Tejano stage to public service
The Corpus Christi appearance comes at a significant moment in Pulido’s career.
After decades as one of Tejano music’s most recognizable voices, Pulido has begun transitioning from the entertainment stage toward a career in public service. The Edinburg native launched his campaign for Texas’ 15th Congressional District in 2025 and won the Democratic nomination in 2026.
Pulido has said his decision to pursue public office is rooted in a desire to give back to South Texas and use his voice in a different way. His campaign has emphasized his roots in the Rio Grande Valley and his experience as a longtime Tejano artist, small-business owner and father.
His quinceañera appearances have become one of the more personal elements of his campaign, allowing him to maintain a connection with young South Texans and their families while bringing the artist many of them grew up listening to directly into their celebrations.

For Anthony and his family, however, Saturday’s visit is not about politics. It is about a young Tejano music fan receiving an unforgettable birthday surprise from one of his favorite artists.
Bobby Pulido’s special appearance for Anthony Humberto Lopez is scheduled for 10–11 a.m. Saturday at Hi Ho Mexican Restaurant in Corpus Christi.
