Uncle Earl Hudson, Beloved Tejano Radio Personality, Passes Away

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The Tejano music community is mourning the loss of one of its most recognizable radio voices. Earl “Uncle Earl” Hudson, the beloved San Antonio radio personality heard on KLMO-FM has passed away in a tragic auto accident.

The news was confirmed Saturday (August 1) by Lopez Broadcasting, the owners of KLMO, who shared a heartfelt statement honoring the longtime broadcaster and friend.

“On behalf of Lopez Broadcasting, we are truly saddened and heartbroken by the sudden passing of our colleague and dear friend, Earl Hudson, affectionately known as ‘Uncle Earl.’

Earl was a loyal, passionate, and caring member of the Lopez Broadcasting family. His dedication, kind spirit, and love for what he did touched the lives of so many, and his presence will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with Earl’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. May God grant them strength, comfort, and peace in the days ahead.

Known affectionately as “San Antonio’s favorite Tío,” Hudson became one of the most familiar voices in Tejano radio through his infectious enthusiasm, larger-than-life personality, and genuine love for the music and its fans. His trademark expressions, including the unmistakable “¡Eso! BOOM!” became synonymous with his energetic on-air style and endeared him to listeners across South Texas.

For years, Hudson welcomed audiences each weekend as the host of Tejano Hits, airing live Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. from the Totally Tejano Hall of Fame & Museum. The interactive program connected listeners through live call-ins and social media while showcasing both legendary artists and emerging talent from across the Tejano landscape.

He also co-hosted The Hottest Night on Tejano Radio every Tuesday evening alongside Adam “Ace” Garcia. Known collectively as “Pimienta y Tajín” or the “Two Spicy Hombres,” the duo built a reputation for championing independent artists and introducing audiences to the newest voices in Tejano music. Hudson was also a familiar contributor on The April Monterrosa Show, further expanding his influence throughout the San Antonio radio market.

Beyond the microphone, Uncle Earl was deeply committed to serving his community. Through KLMO and its “Weekend Warriors” team, he helped organize holiday toy drives, raffle fundraisers, and charitable initiatives that benefited families throughout the region. His dedication to both music and public service made him a respected ambassador for the Tejano community.

His popularity earned him recognition as a Top 5 Runner-Up at the 8th Annual All Star Music Awards in San Antonio. He also appeared in the regional advocacy film The American Coyote, demonstrating his passion for representing South Texas culture beyond radio.

For countless Tejano artists, Hudson was more than a radio personality. He was an advocate who believed in giving new music a chance, encouraging up-and-coming performers, and celebrating the genre’s rich legacy. His shows became a destination where established stars and independent musicians alike found a welcoming platform.

The announcement of his passing prompted an outpouring of tributes from fellow broadcasters, musicians, and listeners who remembered his warmth, humor, and unwavering support of Tejano music.
