Jim Wells County Judge Reaffirms Order Barring Jaime DeAnda From Using Los Chamacos Name

A Jim Wells County judge has reaffirmed that former Los Chamacos frontman Jaime DeAnda is prohibited from using the iconic Los Chamacos name, marking another significant development in the years-long legal battle over one of Tejano music’s most recognizable brands.

According to a report by El Chisme 361, a hearing held Tuesday (July 28) focused on allegations that DeAnda violated the court’s original 2015 ruling regarding the use of the Los Chamacos name.

Following the hearing, the judge ruled in favor of the current members of Los Chamacos, led by Roel Joslin, reaffirming that DeAnda is barred from using the name Los Chamacos for concerts, advertising, flyers, promotions, or on social media.

The court also addressed allegations that DeAnda continued booking performances and promoting events under the Los Chamacos name despite the existing court order.

Judge Orders Additional Bond, Warns of Jail Time

During Tuesday’s proceedings, the court ordered the forfeiture of a previously posted bond and set an additional $20,000 bond related to the alleged violations.

According to the court’s order, DeAnda has two weeks to post the new bond or face up to 180 days in jail. The judge further warned that any future violation of the court’s orders could result in forfeiture of the bond and additional jail time.

In what appears to be an immediate response to the ruling, DeAnda removed “Y Los Chamacos” from his personal Facebook profile name.

The latest decision represents another major chapter in a legal dispute that has stretched over a decade and has included state court litigation, trademark filings, contempt proceedings, and conflicting claims over ownership of the band’s name.

A Decade-Long Dispute

The legal battle centers on ownership of the names Los Chamacos and Jaime y Los Chamacos, with Roel Joslin and Jaime DeAnda each asserting rights to the historic brand.

According to representatives for Los Chamacos, Joslin legally purchased the rights to the band name from DeAnda in 2015. The agreement was reportedly intended to help DeAnda resolve personal financial obligations.

DeAnda officially separated from the group in 2018. Following his departure, the band continued performing exclusively as Los Chamacos.

In June 2019, Joslin filed suit against DeAnda in Texas state court, alleging breach of contract and other claims tied to ownership of the band’s trademarks and branding.

2025 Judgment Favored Joslin

The dispute intensified in 2025.

In May 2025, DeAnda filed federal trademark applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for both Los Chamacos and Jaime Y Los Chamacos, arguing he was protecting his family’s musical legacy dating back to 1978.

Following a trial in Jim Wells County Court at Law in Alice, Texas, on Aug. 12, 2025, the judge signed a final judgment on Aug. 19, 2025, awarding exclusive ownership rights of Los Chamacos and Jaime y Los Chamacos to Roel Joslin.

The judgment also ordered DeAnda to pay $250,000 in damages and permanently prohibited him from using or claiming ownership of either name for personal benefit.

Public Battle Continued Into 2026

The dispute spilled into the public eye earlier this year.

In January, Los Chamacos released statements and court documents disputing DeAnda’s public claims that he had regained the band’s name, warning promoters that he remained under a permanent injunction.

The following day, DeAnda responded, arguing that he had never been properly served or notified of the August 2025 trial date. His legal counsel maintained that he was denied the opportunity to defend himself in court.

Meanwhile, his trademark applications advanced through the federal registration process.

Arrest, Trademark Registration, and New Court Action

In June, a Jim Wells County warrant was issued alleging DeAnda violated the permanent injunction by booking performances and promoting concerts under the name Jaime y Los Chamacos. He was arrested, posted a $5,000 bond, and was later released.

Just days later, on June 16, 2026, the USPTO officially registered the federal trademark for Jaime Y Los Chamacos to Jaime and Darlene DeAnda for live musical band performances.

DeAnda has maintained that the federal trademark registration supports his position and that state court actions cannot override his federally registered trademark rights.

However, Tuesday’s ruling once again reinforced the state court’s position, finding in favor of Joslin and the current members of Los Chamacos while imposing stricter enforcement measures against future violations.

As of now, the legal fight over one of Tejano music’s most recognizable names remains active, with both state court rulings and federal trademark issues continuing to shape the ongoing dispute.
