Asalto builds anticipation with teaser, cover art for emotional new single ‘Te Traigo En La Mente’

Tejano band Asalto is building anticipation for its next musical chapter after unveiling the teaser and official cover art for its upcoming single, “Te Traigo En La Mente,” scheduled for release on Friday, July 31, across all digital streaming platforms.

Along with the single, fans can also expect the premiere of the song’s official music video, giving listeners both an audio and visual introduction to what frontman Jordan Rodriguez describes as one of the band’s most personal and emotionally driven recordings to date.

Speaking with Tejano Nation Radio host Romeo, Rodriguez revealed that the song began not as a finished composition, but as a deeply personal story shared by friend and songwriter Christopher Reyna.

“When he gave it to me, it wasn’t really a song,” Rodriguez explained. “It was more of a storyline of a personal thing he was going through. He sent it to me and said, ‘Hey bro, I wrote this and I’m trying to make a song out of it. Could you help me out?'”

Rodriguez immediately accepted the challenge, saying the melody came to him almost instantly.

“Whenever Chris sent me the words, automatically the melody came to my head. It just flowed right in. It was definitely a blessing from God the way it flowed in for us.”

Knowing he wanted the lyrics to connect authentically with listeners, Rodriguez enlisted Edward Garza—the son-in-law of Tejano star Michael Salgado—to help refine the Spanish portions of the song. The collaboration ultimately resulted in songwriting credits for Christopher Reyna, Jordan Rodriguez, and Edward Garza.

Bringing real emotion into the studio

Because the song is rooted in Reyna’s real-life experiences, Rodriguez said he approached the recording with a heightened sense of responsibility.

“It was actually a personal story of his. Him trusting me to turn this into the song that it is has been amazing.”

To fully capture the emotion, Rodriguez immersed himself in the narrative while recording the vocals.

“I put myself in his position. I asked myself what I would do if I were going through something like this. I let the emotion hit me. Once you hear the track and the chorus, you can really tell the emotion that went into it and everything we poured into it as a band.”

A fresh sound while honoring Tejano influences

“Te Traigo En La Mente” also marks a new production direction for Asalto.

After previously recording at Redwood Studios with Anthony Pettis and AJ Castillo, the band chose to reset creatively by recording at Neon Cactus Studios, working with engineer Cometa Lujan. Rodriguez later selected Danny Fender to mix and master the track.

The new recording environment allowed Asalto to continue shaping its signature style while drawing inspiration from some of Tejano’s most influential groups.

“One thing I always do is pay homage to the bands that I grew up listening to—Siggno, Intocable, Solido, La Firma, Los Palominos. I try to incorporate those styles into one sound, and that’s what creates the Asalto sound.”

Rodriguez praised both Lujan and Fender for helping bring his creative vision to life while preserving the band’s identity.

Music video premieres alongside the single

The July 31 release will also include the debut of the official music video for “Te Traigo En La Mente.”

Rodriguez shared that longtime friend Cristelo Valverde appears in the production, while longtime collaborators Michael and Julia Lopez once again handled the visual direction.

“Mike and Julia are part of the team. They always do an amazing job creating the vision that I have. It’s truly a team effort here at Asalto. I don’t take sole credit for anything we do because all of us contribute ideas and pour our love into this music.”

The music video has already been teased through short social media reels ahead of its official premiere.

Looking ahead with RegioMex Music

The new single also signals the beginning of an exciting new era for the band.

Rodriguez confirmed Asalto recently signed with RegioMex Music, partnering with industry veteran Fernando Sanchez as the band prepares to record its next album.

“We’re excited for our future with them. We have a very busy schedule, and dates are still coming in. We’re hoping to reach different regions across the United States and Mexico.”

Among the band’s future goals is a planned Mexico tour next year, as Asalto continues expanding its audience while staying rooted in Tejano music and culture.

“We just love connecting with the people that listen to our music. I don’t want to call them fans because we’re all friends and family. We’re all Raza. We just pray that God continues to bless us as we continue to grow.”

With early reactions to the teaser already generating excitement online, Asalto is hoping “Te Traigo En La Mente”becomes another milestone in the band’s growing catalog when it arrives on Friday, July 31, accompanied by its highly anticipated music video.
