Amanda Solis is bringing a fresh burst of energy to Tejano music with the release of “Bom Bum,” an upbeat cumbia-pop anthem inspired by that unforgettable moment when you meet someone and instantly fall under their spell.

The Houston-based singer-songwriter debuted the feel-good single as the first release from her upcoming album, blending classic Tejano cumbia influences with a modern pop sound that has become her signature.

In an interview with Tejano Nation Radio host Romeo, Amanda revealed that the song’s origins trace back to a chance moment in a Chicago airport while traveling between Selena tribute performances with her late manager, Jessica Martinez.

“We really wanted to come up with our own style,” Solis explained. “Inspired by those faster cumbias back in the day… still make it Selena-esque, but of course Amanda Solis, because at the end of the day, I could never fill her shoes. It’s for me to pave my own way.”

While grabbing a meal during a layover, the pair heard the iconic reggae hit “Bam Bam” by Sister Nancy playing in the background. The song immediately sparked an idea.

“We were like, ‘That sounds so much like when you think about Bidi Bidi Bom Bom,‘” she recalled. “We just pulled out a napkin and started writing things down. We thought, ‘This could be like a newer generation of a faster cumbia… but our own way.'”

That airport brainstorming session quickly turned into a studio session after Solis and Martinez contacted Corpus Christi-based Latin Grammy-winning producers El Dusty and Mariano Herrera, who helped transform the concept into a finished song.

“We literally went in there, they were feeling the vibe, Dusty laid down the beat, Mariano helped us put the lyrics together, and we recorded it.”

A tribute to Jessica Martinez

While “Bom Bum” is built for dance floors, the song carries a much deeper emotional meaning for Solis.

She shared that the single serves as a tribute to her late manager and close friend Jessica Martinez, who passed away before the song could be released.

“This is really a tribute to my late manager because we wrote it together,” Solis said. “Every time we were about to touch this song after Jessica passed away, it felt like everything was crumbling underneath us. I felt like that was just a sign from her saying, ‘Hold on, chica… hold on.'”

After years of waiting, Solis believes the timing is finally right.

“Now here we are today finally releasing it, and I’m just so excited. It’s a newer generational upbeat cumbia for people to dance and have fun.”

Bridging generations through cumbia

Solis says “Bom Bum” represents exactly where she hopes Tejano music continues to evolve.

“As you see, music has changed so much. It evolves all the time,” she said. “For me, this just shows the evolution of music—from that style in the ’90s to now.”

That philosophy has become central to Solis’ artistic identity. While she proudly embraces the sounds that inspired her—including Selena and the golden era of Tejano—she continues to craft music that resonates with a new generation of listeners.

Known for blending traditional regional Mexican rhythms with contemporary electronic pop production, Solis has steadily built a loyal fanbase through both her original music and performances with her band The Space Vaqueros.

Her debut album, Space Vaquera, introduced audiences to her unique fusion of classic Tejano roots and modern Latin pop, helping establish her as one of the genre’s most promising young artists.

More music on the horizon

“Bom Bum” is only the beginning of what’s shaping up to be a busy year for Solis.

She confirmed the song is the first single from her forthcoming full-length album while also revealing she’s simultaneously working on a Christmas EP—a tradition her fans have come to expect.

“Every year I record a new Christmas song,” she said with a smile. “I’m known as La Muñeca Navideña, so we’re working on new Christmas music so we can wrap that up and create an EP.”

In addition to new recordings, Solis and her band will soon head to the Vegas Tejano Takeover in Las Vegas, Nevada, this month, where she’ll continue promoting “Bom Bum” and preview what’s next.

Originally gaining national recognition as one of the country’s most acclaimed Selena tribute performers, Solis has steadily stepped into her own spotlight with heartfelt songwriting and an unmistakable musical identity. Following multiple nominations at last year’s Texas Pura Vida Awards, the Houston artist continues to prove she’s not simply honoring Tejano’s legacy—she’s helping shape its future.

With “Bom Bum” available on digital streaming platforms, Amanda Solis delivers exactly what summer calls for: a catchy, danceable cumbia packed with nostalgic influences, modern flair, and a deeply personal story that gives every beat even more heart.
