Three-time GRAMMY Award-winning artist Sunny Sauceda is taking fans back to the music that helped define his career with the release of Studio Sessions, a new all-Spanish Tejano album recorded live at the legendary Velasquez Music Studios alongside 16-time GRAMMY Award-winning producer Gilbert Velasquez.
Available now on all digital streaming platforms through Azteca Ranch Music, Studio Sessions features refreshed versions of some of Sauceda’s most beloved recordings from the 1990s and early 2000s, capturing the energy and authenticity of a live performance while showcasing his signature accordion-driven Tex-Mex sound.
During a recent interview with Tejano Nation Radio host Romeo, Sauceda shared the inspiration behind the project and why revisiting these songs felt like the right move.
“Studio Sessions is out. It’s a collection of songs that are considered part of what we call our legacy hits, songs that I recorded in the ’90s and early 2000s,” Sauceda said.
The album came about after years of requests from radio programmers, industry friends, and longtime supporters who wanted access to songs that had become difficult to find.
“A lot of my radio promoter friends or radio family asked for some of the nostalgia,” he explained. “People wanted to hear some of the music from the past that was no longer available. So we went into the studio, we cut this album and really in one day went in and recorded them in a live setting.”
Unlike modern recording sessions that are often built track by track, Studio Sessions was recorded with the musicians performing together in real time.
“This is a one-shot deal,” Sauceda said. “Once the paint dries, you get what you get. It is what it is. We tried to keep it as authentic as possible. We wanted it to just be a live representation of the songs.”
The project includes updated versions of fan favorites and original compositions that have remained staples of Sauceda’s catalog over the years. Among them are “Estúpido Corazón,” “Sin Buenas Condiciones,” “No Llores Negra,” “Si Mujeres Mujeres,” and “Botoncito De Cariño.”
Sauceda noted that many listeners may not realize how many of those songs were written by him and his family.
“We did things that people love,” he said. “Some of the songs my dad wrote, like ‘Estúpido Corazón’ and ‘Mujeres Mujeres.’ I wrote ‘Sin Buenas Condiciones.’ ‘La Nera’ is a fan favorite. A lot of the songs on there are original songs. People don’t always realize that they’re originals.”
One of the album’s standout moments comes on “Vueltas y Vueltas,” which features a special guest appearance from Keith Nieto, adding a fresh element to the nostalgic collection.

The album artwork also carries personal significance. Sauceda revealed that the cover photo—a close-up image of his belt buckle—serves as a tribute to one of his musical influences outside the Tejano world.
“If you see the album cover, you’ll notice that it’s really a picture of my belt buckle and it’s a little bit of an homage to Motley Crue,” he said. “Their Too Fast for Love album is one of my favorite records and one of the first records I listened to.”
While Studio Sessions celebrates the past, Sauceda says it may not be the last project of its kind. Encouraged by the response from supporters, he plans to continue revisiting classic material while also working on new music.
“People want that nostalgia,” he said. “They love the old songs. They love those songs that people love, so we’re going to keep doing that. Of course, we’re still in the studio doing other stuff, but people are excited for this record.”
For Sauceda, the project is ultimately a thank-you to the supporters who have stood by him throughout his career.
“I don’t like to use the word fan,” he said. “They’re our supporters, our family that work hard and spend their money on what we do, whether it be concerts, merchandise, streaming, or even just sharing our music. We appreciate everything that they do.”
With Studio Sessions, Sunny Sauceda delivers exactly what many supporters have been asking for—an authentic, heartfelt return to the songs that helped build his legacy, recorded live and preserved with the energy, soul, and unmistakable accordion sound that have made him one of Tejano music’s most celebrated artists.
