SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Tejano music icon Little Joe is giving the next generation of performers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase their talents while honoring his legendary career.
The newly announced “Little Joe’s Tejanitos Got Talent” competition is now accepting video auditions from children ages 7 to 13 for a chance to perform live at the highly anticipated inaugural Legacy Show on August 1 at the historic Woodlawn Theatre in San Antonio.
More than just a talent competition, the event celebrates creativity, education, and community while helping launch the newly established Little Joe & Cris Hernandez Legacy Scholarship Foundation.
Young performers are invited to submit a 30-second to one-minute audition video showcasing their talent. Singers, dancers, musicians, comedians, magicians, and other performers are encouraged to participate. Audition videos must include the contestant’s name and age, and submissions must be made by a parent or guardian. Selected contestants will advance to a live, in-person judging round before an audience, with one standout winner earning the opportunity to take the stage and pay tribute to Little Joe during the Legacy Show.
In addition to performing alongside one of Tejano music’s most influential figures, the winner will receive VIP access to the event and join Little Joe on the red carpet with their parents.
“Little Joe loves the arts and believes every child should continue nurturing their passion for music, dance, and creativity,” organizers said in the announcement. “This is a chance for a young performer to share the spotlight with a living legend.”
Known worldwide as the King of the Brown Sound, Little Joe has spent more than six decades shaping Tejano music and inspiring generations of artists. The five-time Grammy winner has built a career that transcends musical genres, blending Tejano, conjunto, country, R&B, and regional Mexican influences while becoming one of the most respected figures in Latino music.
The contest is being held in conjunction with the launch of the Little Joe & Cris Hernandez Legacy Scholarship Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping students pursue higher education and career goals. The foundation was established to ensure financial hardship never prevents students from continuing their education while preserving Tejano heritage and empowering future generations.
Named in honor of Little Joe and his late wife, Criselida “Cris” Hernandez, the foundation will award scholarships to students pursuing careers in the arts, medical, legal, and education fields. Cris, affectionately known as the “First Lady of La Familia,” played a vital role in building the Little Joe y La Familia legacy and remained a driving force behind the family’s business and musical success for decades.
The August 1 Legacy Show fundraiser is expected to bring together Tejano music fans, artists, and community leaders to celebrate Little Joe’s extraordinary career while supporting educational opportunities for future generations.
Parents interested in entering their children into the Tejanitos Got Talent competition can submit audition videos via email to Thriveentmusic@gmail.com. Contestants selected as semifinalists will be contacted with details regarding the live judging round.
The Legacy Show begins at 6 p.m. on August 1 at Woodlawn Theatre and promises to be an unforgettable evening honoring one of Tejano music’s most beloved and influential figures while investing in the leaders and performers of tomorrow.
