Tejano music icon and congressional candidate Bobby Pulido is warning supporters and fans to be cautious after scammers began impersonating him online and charging families for quinceañera appearances.
The South Texas singer, known for classic hits like “Desvelado” and “Le Pediré,” addressed the issue in a video shared on social media after learning fake accounts were allegedly messaging fans and requesting payment to secure appearances at quinceañeras.
“Hey everybody, we’re outside of a quinceañera. I just wanna clarify something because it’s been brought to my attention that there’s some scam accounts that are going out there pretending to be me and they’re charging,” Pulido said in the video. “We don’t charge for this.”
Pulido emphasized that the only legitimate way to request an appearance is through his campaign website and warned fans to avoid responding to suspicious messages or “exclusive fan” pages claiming to represent him.
“There’s a lot of fake accounts out there,” he added. “We never outbox and send messages asking for people’s help from our social media accounts. That never happens. There’s no private page. There’s no personal page. There’s no this is mine for just my exclusive fans. None of that.”
The two-time Latin Grammy winner launched his now-viral quinceañera appearances earlier this year as part of his grassroots campaign for Texas’ 15th Congressional District, which stretches from the Rio Grande Valley to areas east of San Antonio. Pulido is running as a Democrat against incumbent Republican Rep. Monica De La Cruz.
The unconventional campaign strategy began after De La Cruz posted a social media video in March saying, “This election isn’t about who you want performing at your niece’s quinceañera, it’s about who you trust with your family’s future.”
Rather than shy away from the remark, Pulido leaned into it — attending quinceañeras across South Texas, performing for birthday girls, taking photos with families, and even gifting hats reading “Make Quinceañeras Great Again.”
The appearances quickly generated national attention and reportedly led to more than 1,000 families applying for a visit.
Pulido reiterated that every quinceañera appearance connected to his campaign has been completely free.
“We’ve never charged for any of these quinceañeras that we’ve been doing,” he said. “So just be careful out there.”
