The family of the late “Queen of Tejano Music,” Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, is taking legal action against fast-fashion giant Shein over the alleged unauthorized use of the singer’s likeness on merchandise sold online.
According to reports from TMZ, Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, has filed a lawsuit accusing the retailer of selling clothing featuring Selena’s image without permission from the family or their company, Q-Productions.
In court documents obtained by TMZ, Quintanilla claims Shein placed Selena’s face on multiple shirts and other apparel listed on its website without seeking authorization. The filing alleges the company exploited the late singer’s name, image, and likeness for profit despite not having the rights to do so.

The Quintanilla family, through Q-Productions, tightly controls Selena-related licensing and merchandising. The company was founded by Selena’s father, Abraham Quintanilla, and manages the singer’s trademarks, branding, and legacy projects.
According to the lawsuit, Quintanilla and Q-Productions issued Shein a cease-and-desist letter around August 2025 demanding the company stop selling the unauthorized merchandise. However, the complaint alleges the retailer ignored the request and continued to sell the products online.
As a result, the lawsuit seeks a court order to immediately halt the sale of the merchandise and demands that Shein hand over profits generated from the alleged infringement, along with additional damages for trademark violations, unfair competition, and misuse of Selena’s publicity rights.
Selena remains one of the most influential Latin artists of all time. The Texas-born star rose to international fame in the early 1990s before her tragic death in 1995 at the age of 23. Decades later, her music, fashion, and cultural legacy continue to inspire fans worldwide and remain closely protected by her family.
The lawsuit marks the latest legal dispute involving online retailers accused of selling unauthorized celebrity merchandise. As of now, Shein has not publicly responded to the claims.
For the Quintanilla family, protecting Selena’s legacy remains a top priority — ensuring that any products bearing her name or image meet the standards and approval of those entrusted with preserving her memory.
