ALICE, Texas — Los Chamacos have released a formal statement to address what they describe as ongoing misinformation surrounding the ownership and use of the band names “Jaime y Los Chamacos” and “Los Chamacos.” The statement comes amid public claims by former frontman James (Jaime) DeAnda that he has “reclaimed” or “regained” rights to the name — claims the band says are false and not supported by any court order.
According to the statement, ownership and exclusive rights to the names “Jaime y Los Chamacos” and “Los Chamacos” were legally awarded to Roel Joslin, with a judgment made official following a trial held on August 12, 2025, in Jim Wells County Court at Law.
“In June 2019, Roel Joslin filed a lawsuit against James (Jaime) DeAnda for breach of contract and other claims,” the statement reads. “After hearing testimony and reviewing evidence, the judge ruled in favor of Roel Joslin.”

The court not only confirmed Joslin’s ownership of the band name, but also ordered DeAnda to pay $250,000 in damages. The judgment further permanently restrains, enjoins, and prohibits DeAnda from claiming ownership or using the business trade name “Jaime y Los Chamacos” for his benefit. The ruling was signed and made official on August 19, 2025, and is a matter of public record under Case No. 19-06-59570-CV at the Jim Wells County District Clerk’s Office in Alice, Texas.
Los Chamacos also addressed recent trademark filings made by DeAnda. In May 2025, DeAnda filed federal trademark applications for both “Jaime y Los Chamacos” and “Los Chamacos” with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The band states that no trademark has been granted and confirms that they have retained legal counsel to formally challenge and oppose those applications.
“Any past or ongoing use of ‘Jaime y Los Chamacos’ or ‘Los Chamacos’ by James (Jaime) DeAnda or anyone else is unauthorized and prohibited,” the statement said. “We will be seeking further court proceedings to enforce our legal rights and prevent further use.”
The group emphasized that the dispute is about protecting their legacy and preventing confusion among fans, promoters, venues, and the general public.
“We will no longer stay silent,” the statement continued. “We will actively enforce our legal rights to protect the integrity, reputation, and history associated with the name Jaime y Los Chamacos.”

Los Chamacos — one of Tejano music’s most iconic groups — are currently owned and managed by Roel Joslin, who legally purchased the rights to the band’s name from DeAnda in 2015. According to the band, that transaction was part of an agreement intended to help DeAnda settle personal debts, including child support and credit card obligations.
DeAnda officially parted ways with the group in 2018, at which point the band dropped “Jaime” from the name and continued performing as Los Chamacos.
Despite the legal dispute, Los Chamacos remain active and continue to tour and release music. In September 2025, the Grammy-nominated band announced the highly anticipated reunion of its powerhouse 1990s lineup — Roel Joslin, Eduardo “Chato” Ordoñez, and Hector Tello — marking the first time in more than two decades that the trio has shared the stage. Along with Gilbert Fierros Jr., the group continues to perform and celebrate the band’s legacy.
That reunited lineup traces its roots to the 1993 landmark album Unrivaled, which propelled Los Chamacos into the national spotlight. Throughout the 1990s, the band headlined major venues, earned Grammy nominations, appeared on national television, and helped define a golden era of Tejano music with its explosive, unified sound.
Now, more than 25 years later, the original “Smash Hit Team of the ’90s” is back, carrying a decorated résumé that includes four Grammy nominations, two Latin Grammy nominations, three Gold Albums, and induction into the Tejano ROOTS Hall of Fame — and, they say, clear legal confirmation of the name under which that legacy continues.
