Bobby Pulido Officially Announces Run for Congress

Tejano icon and Latin Grammy winner pivots from the stage to politics with campaign for Texas’s 15th District

Tejano star Bobby Pulido, known for his chart-topping hits and decades-long music career, officially announced his run for Congress on Wednesday. The Latin Grammy winner, who is currently on his farewell “Por La Puerta Grande Tour,” shared the news in an emotional message on social media.

“Music gave me a stage to share our stories, to represent our people with pride, and to carry our culture everywhere I went,” Pulido wrote. “Now it’s time to serve South Texas in a different way. With prayer, reflection, and the support of my family, I’ve made the decision to run for Congress.”

The Edinburg native emphasized his family roots and his vision for the region: “I come from Edinburg. I’m the grandson of hardworking people who taught me to never give up. I’m also a father of four boys who deserve every opportunity for a brighter future. Like so many of you, I want better wages, better healthcare, better schools and the respect our community deserves.”

Pulido first signaled his political ambitions in July when he formed an exploratory committee for a 2026 congressional run in Texas’s 15th District, which stretches from the Rio Grande Valley to near San Antonio. The seat is currently held by Republican Rep. Monica De La Cruz, and Democrats see the race as a key battleground amid shifting Latino voter trends. Pulido will face a Democratic primary that already includes Harlingen physician Ada Cuellar.

Although his name is synonymous with Tejano music, Pulido announced his retirement from performing in late 2024, citing his plans to pursue public office. His farewell tour continues through 2025, and he has also released a live duets double album, Bobby & Friends – Una Tuya y Una Mía, with a final studio album scheduled for 2026 to close out his musical career.

The 15th District, long considered a Democratic stronghold, swung Republican in 2022 and expanded that margin in 2024 when De La Cruz won reelection by 14 points. Pulido believes his local roots, cultural reach, and focus on kitchen-table issues—such as wages, healthcare, education, and immigration—could help Democrats reclaim the seat.

“As I always sang with corazón, now I want to fight for South Texas with that same corazón,” Pulido said. “With faith. With pride. For all of us.”

Pablo Calido is running as a conservative, so he needs to be held to the standard of a conservative, not another Democrat in sheep’s clothing. If he wants to wake up the Hispanic vote, then he must remind us who we are, a people of faith, a people of family, and a people who want government to leave us the hell alone, period.

But those values only matter if we stand up and vote. For too long, society has told Hispanics that voting isn’t for them, that it’s a waste of time. And unfortunately, many have believed it. That ends now. It’s time for Hispanics to rise up, speak for ourselves, and stop letting others tell us what to think. Our voice matters, our vote matters, and it’s time we start using both.
