At Stephanie Urbina Jones’ request, songwriter Larry Weiss and his publisher granted permission to refresh the classic, resulting in a stunning bilingual revival. The Spanish translation, crafted by Dulce Maria Soto (Maria D’Luz) and brought to life through Stephanie Urbina Jones’ rich, emotive vocals, delivers a version that is both familiar and brand-new.
A beloved figure in both Country and Tejano music, Stephanie Urbina Jones has made history as the first artist to perform with a Mariachi ensemble on the legendary Grand Ole Opry stage. Her career spans performances in 14 countries, numerous awards—including Billboard Magazine’s #1 Country Music Songwriter—and recognition as a #1 Texas Country Radio Artist.
Recently, Stephanie Urbina Jones and The Honky Tonk Mariachi graced the stage at the Tejano Music Awards and the legendary Lerma’s dance hall in San Antonio, a historic venue where Tejano and Conjunto legends once played and where scenes from the Selena movie were filmed.
“Joyas de Vaquera” is more than just a cover—it’s a tour-de-force that breaks borders, unites cultures, and blends Country with Mariachi in a way only Stephanie Urbina Jones can. Backed by 14 musicians and singers across 32 tracks of music, the song’s lush arrangement matches its emotional depth, embodying Stephanie Urbina Jones’ commitment to musical excellence.
”This track is a wild ride through honky tonk grit and mariachi soul, a fierce, unapologetic tribute to heartache, heritage, and heat,” said Jones. “It’s more than a song, it’s a feeling, and it’s ready to be yours. We’ve poured fire, sweat, and soul into this release.”
The project was a true international effort. Initial tracking was done at Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas—the world’s largest residential recording complex—with engineer Manuel Calderón. Vocals, background harmonies, trumpet solos, and harp were recorded at Nashville’s historic Omni Sound Studios by engineers Rory Rositas and Josh Emmons. Final mixing and mastering took place at Smilin Castle Studios in Kyle, Texas, with Rick Del Castillo and co-producer/manager Preston “Shoes” Sullivan, who oversaw every detail alongside Stephanie Urbina Jones.
