Tejano music legend Shelly Lares, affectionately known as “Little Miss Dynamite,” retired from touring a couple of years ago to focus on songwriting, producing, recording, and mentoring the next generation of Tejano artists with her Shellshock Records 3. Recently, she has embarked on an exciting new journey, composing and producing music for television and film, including the upcoming TV series “King of the South” and the films “Say A Little Prayer,” “Deeper,” and “Alamo City Zombie.”
Shelly shared her enthusiasm for these new opportunities with Tejano Nation. “I’m super excited, first and foremost, all the honor and glory to God for these opportunities. You know, since my retirement from the road, it didn’t mean I was retiring from working. I’m busier now, but I’m actually getting into film and has been a dream of mine for a very long time.”
Shelly is currently working on the series “King of the South,” set to be released next year. She expressed her gratitude to the director, actor, and writer Gabriel Carmona for giving her the opportunity to write for this amazing series. Additionally, she is composing music for a comedy zombie movie, for which she has already composed 11 songs. Collaborating with Grammy winner Rebecca Valadez and R.B. Arredondo, Shelly is excited about the creative projects ahead.
The rom-com “Say A Little Prayer” was the first movie for which Shelly produced music. “It has been incredible. This was the first film that I was asked to do. So I redid my version of ‘These Boots Are Made for Walking.’ The entire film was filmed in San Antonio, showcasing the beauty of our city. I’m so grateful that we’re starting to get the recognition for the arts and the music in San Antonio like we deserve.”

Shelly’s involvement in film and television has opened new doors for her and the artists she mentors. “So many beautiful opportunities and so much talent that I’m trying to help some of these artists get their music onto series and films and, you know, opening the door for people as much as I can as it being open for me.”
“Say A Little Prayer” will hit AMC Theaters on November 22nd, featuring a song by Shelly in the opening sequence. The film stars Luis Fonsi and Vanessa Vazquez, and it has been a surreal experience for Shelly to hear her song and voice on the big screen.
As Shelly continues to push the boundaries of her craft, she remains dedicated to representing her Tejano community and her beloved city of San Antonio. Her journey into film and television is just beginning, and she is excited about the future and the opportunities it holds in a legendary career spanning over four decades.
