In a heartfelt revelation, legendary Tejano musician Juan P. Moreno is facing a challenging battle with chronic pancreatic disease. The news was shared by radio personality and #PVT Podcast host Rock N Roll James Echevarria via social media. Echevarria expressed his concern, stating, “My good friend and legendary bajo sexto pioneer Juan P. Moreno is going through some really tough times. I reached out to him after seeing a picture and video of him looking really sick.”
Moreno, in a text response to Echevarria, disclosed, “I have chronic pancreatic disease, with 2 tumors on my pancreas. I have a third tumor on one of my heart arteries. I’m never going to give up. Gonna fight it. I know I have God on my side.” He further mentioned that he would be heading to Austin, Texas, later this week for extensive testing and would then be referred to MD Anderson Hospital.
Moved by Moreno’s condition, Echevarria donated money via CashApp and shared Moreno’s CashApp details for fans who wish to support him during this difficult time.

In June, Moreno announced a temporary withdrawal from the music scene, citing health concerns that required immediate attention. In a sincere message to his fans and colleagues, he expressed his regret for any inconvenience caused by the postponement of his shows and appearances. “At this moment, my health must come first, and I will put all my effort into being ready and healthy as soon as possible to sing for all of you with my music,” Moreno stated.
Despite the difficult times he and his family are facing, Moreno’s commitment to his fans remains unwavering. He extended his gratitude for the understanding and affection shown to him during this challenging period. “I appreciate your understanding and affection for me,” Moreno shared, emphasizing the support he has received from his audience and industry partners.
Juan P. Moreno has captivated audiences with his dynamic performances and heartfelt music for several decades. He embodies the spirit of Tejano tradition, earning a GRAMMY nomination for Best Tejano Album at the 53rd GRAMMY Awards in 2011. His dedication to the genre is evident in every note he plays, whether strumming his guitar or leading his band on stage, highlighting the vibrant mosaic of Tejano culture and its lasting heritage.
